Texas GOP shows its true colors...

Expect the Republican party to do absolutely nothing about the racists in its own midst. The national Republican party in Washington has contacts all the time with its state parties. I'm sure there's money involved, and you'd better believe that when John McCain visits the states, he meets with local party officials. At what point do we hold John McCain responsible for fraternizing with racists? You don't see John McCain ever saying that he's no longer going to meet with, fundraise with, any state parties that promote or tolerate racism (like the folks in NC and TN). All McCain and that national party does is say "gosh, that's so bad, stop that now." McCain and the GOP have the power to punish the racists in their midst. So when will they? Oh, and for all of you in the media who will of course say that this has nothing to do with the GOP: What would you say if racist pins were being handed out at the Democratic National Convention?

Labels: john mccain, racism, rnc

At the Republican state convention, a booth hosted by Republicanmarket was selling a pin Saturday that says: If Obama is President will we still call it the White House.

There were other pins that weren't necessarily conveying the positive, inclusive, united front that has been portrayed during the convention. One said, "Press 1 for English. Press 2 for Deportation" and another, "I will hold my nose when I vote for McCain"

Guess what. This is not exclusive to Texas. A huge chunk of America is racist and that racism is a 2 way street. Actually, to be fair, the whole world is racist.

This will be ugly, the racists aren;t voting for Obama anyway but this kind of thing may move undecided voters to his camp

That is pretty offensive but it is capitalism at it's best. The article is very disingenuous by connecting McCain to it or the party. The website is a non affiliated entity catering to the extremes of the party. I took a look at the site and found several questionable merchandise but it is there to make money...it is a business after all. I either case, if you guys feel offended by it, Here is the email address if you care to express your disdain for that type of "humor".

So it would be ok for the KKK to set up a recruiting booth at a GOP conference ?

The GOP would have no responsibility for vetting who had rented space ?

Yeah, I can't imagine this swaying too many voters. Let's see if we hear this in the exit poll.... "I was on the fence until I saw a great button".

Good for the Republican Party of Texas

Republican Party of Texas to Donate Proceeds from Disgraced Vendor

Sends Message that Bigotry Will Not Be Tolerated

Austin - The Republican Party of Texas on Wednesday announced it will donate the proceeds from a vendor who attempted to sell a disgracefully insensitive button during the just completed 2008 Republican State Convention in Houston. The vendor RepublicanMarket.com is a Florida based outlet who sells political paraphernalia via the internet and at state conventions all over the nation.

“This vendor need not apply to another Texas G.O.P. State Convention. The proceeds from their booth space will be donated to charity. We will tolerate nor profit from bigotry,” said Hans Klingler, Texas G.O.P. Spokesman.

Dallas Morning News Journalist Christy Hoppe appropriately brought the issue to the attention of R.P.T. officials on Tuesday. R.P.T. officials will be alerting the vendor today via letter about their intent and suggesting they clean up their act.

“Our state convention was energetic, unifying and positive. We will not allow any dishonor to be brought on our hardworking grassroots leaders by the actions of a misguided few. The Republican Party of Texas is proud of its principles, record and diversity,” Klingler continued.

This is just the beginning.

This election will show how deep racism runs in the US, at least with some

I'm a racist.
There's 2 races - tuckers and non-tuckers.
I'm a non-tucker.
You can be any skin tone or ethnicity and be part of either race.

Every once in a while, I'm reminded that those of us (like me) who live in places and run in circles where racism is completely taboo shouldn't forget it exists. I've been going to the same barber for a decade, funny guy probably in his 50's, nice to everybody, I remember seeing minorities in his shop over the years, never thought for a second he was a bigot. I give the guy 50 bucks every Christmas. And a few days ago, I was sitting in his chair and he told me an Obama "joke" that turned my stomach.

And I'm reminded what a good friend told me a number of years ago. He's African American and had essentially the same education and "social class" as me and and drove a car not much different than mine, and during the two years he had lived in Phoenix he had been pulled over by the cops about half a dozen times, and never was given a ticket.

Dude, you are not comparing a website that caters in political paraphernalia to the KKK...are you? Look at their website, does it look like it caters in racism? I am sure the vetting system worked but one can always bring in that type of merchandise after the fact.

No I'm saying that if you run a political convention you had better vet vendors you allow.

I'm sure they do in fact but didn't think this was a 'big deal' so they let it pass.

Let me ask you this.

Do you think a vendor selling items promoting Gay marriage [or other Gay issues] would have been allowed to set up shop there ?

Personally I think that would have stood about as much chance of getting in as the proverbial snowball in hell.

Nidan, with your KKK and Gay issues, have you been reading the San Diego Union-Tribune?

Quote:
In 1998, the Log Cabin Republicans, the nation's largest organization of gay Republicans, was denied a booth at the GOP state convention in Fort Worth and likened to the Ku Klux Klan by a Texas Republican Party spokesman.

“We don't allow pedophiles, transvestites or cross-dressers, either,” then-GOP spokesman Robert Black said at the time.
