Teddy needs a card

Tomorrow marks the anniversary of Ted Kennedy's "little incident" at Chappaquidic.
Send them cards.

Proof that money can do just about anything, including getting you out of a murder rap.

Yup - both Ted Kennedy and Laura Bush were lucky in that regard.

One could argue (and we heard this plenty during Clinton's terms) that the First Lady runs things anyway...........

I would say Laura Bush has more power in Washington right now than Teddy.

You can do better than that. You have to admit that was a pretty weak response.

Jon - What's your personal feeling on Ted Kennedy, his past, etc (without bringing up a Republican to try and even the scales)?

Kind of like the whole thread - this happened, what, 35 years ago?

Ok - to bring it to people that are running for office (President)
35 years ago, Kerry was in Vietnam
Bush was doing coke, and Cheney was busy getting another deferment from the war.

Ted Kennedy made a mistake, and his wealth (or his family's) allowed him to escape scrutiny. Is that fair? Not really - you or I probably would have gone to jail, or at least gotten some punishment.

Did chappaquidick ruin whatever chance Kennedy had to become the Democratic nominee? Yes. Without Chappaquiddick, he would have been the nominee in either 72/76/80/84 - at some point for sure. Would I vote for him in a Presidental primary - I doubt it. But, as a Senator, he has time and time again stood up for the common man, and for the environment.

35 years makes people forget a whole lot of things or things happened in a time when most weren't around.

I want to know how you would handle the rest of your life when your oldest brother was killed in WW II, the next brother was assasinated, in view of the whole world , by a network of special interest extremists ( including government agents ) , who really wanted to kill your other brother, but had to wait 5 years to do that when he was old enough to extract revenge by becoming president.

Sure the man is a drunk. How else do you deal with that deck of cards.

P.S. And by the way, there is a scenario that says Teddy was set up, to make sure he didn't have any Presidential aspirations. Try it on for size.
Remember Teddy was Nixon's expected opponent in 1972 and Nixon had enough of getting his ass whipped by another Kennedy. A clean Ted Kennedy would have won in a landslide mandate. It ain't so crazy when you take the blinders off.

But you wouldnt bash him jon unless he was a republican. True or false? Or let me rephrase if kennedy was a republican you would have harsher words to say true or false?

Wally, Wally, Wally. Saying that Kennedy was set up by Nixonites is a little extreme even for you. You are just going to have to accept the fact that not all Democrats are perfect and some do make mistakes.

As far as TK having a bad deal, do you think that JFK would have turned out like Ted if it would have been Ted killed instead of him? We make our own beds Wally and each of us have our own crosses to bear. Some of us give us and turn to alcohol and drugs and some of us pull ourselves back up by our boot straps and go chugging back up that mountain we all must climb. Ted had a choice and he took the easy way out.
