Critic once saluted Kerry's bravery, loyalty, moral courage
AUGUST 20--The broadside against John Kerry's war record is particularly bizarre in light of what one of the leading bomb throwers had to say about the Democrat while both served in Vietnam. George Elliott, a key member of Swift Boat Veterans for Truth who appears in the anti-Kerry group's virulent TV commercial, recommended Kerry for a Bronze Star in 1969. In the below Navy report, Elliott, a lieutenant commander, recounts how Kerry was "highly courageous in the face of enemy fire" during a fight on the Bay Hap river in March 1969. During that skirmish, Elliott noted, Kerry dodged sniper fire to save a colleague who was knocked overboard when a mine detonated. In a March 1969 evaluation, Elliott reported that Kerry was involved in "several enemy initiated fire fights" and "exhibited all of the traits desired of an officer in a combat environment." A December 1969 fitness report was equally laudatory, with Elliott giving Kerry the highest possible grade available ("Is not exceeded") in most categories, including loyalty and moral courage.
Now that's something I don't understand. Why would he do that? It can't be a Republican vs Democrat thing. Maybe it has to do with Kerry talking about attrocities that may or may not have happened?

So you don't think that's it?! Why would several veterans slander someone just because they are Democrat or Republican. Most of these guys aren't politicans. I think it would take a lot to lie about something. If they are lying about Kerry I think it has to be about what he said about the war afterwards. Are any of the guys complaining Democrats or are they all Republicans?
Alfred French, 58, a senior deputy district attorney in Clackamas County claimed in the commercial "I served with John Kerry. . . . He is lying about his record." He is making his statement based on claims from three friends and their version of events, all of whom just so happen to be in the commercial too.
Yesterday, talk was about having him disbarred. Doubt it will come to that, but his job is to discover truth, not state a claim he has no first hand knowledge of. If this is how he views justice, he needs to lose his job at the least.

Truth seems to be very much a one way street with these Swifty frauds.
Oh well, just as long as the link on the web site still allows for cash donations...
"Before recording the ad, French signed an affidavit that said: "I am able to swear, as I do hereby swear, that all facts and statements contained in this affidavit are true and correct and within my personal knowledge and belief."
It goes on to say that "Kerry has wildly exaggerated and lied about his record in Vietnam" and that he received his Purple Heart medals "in the absence of hostile fire."
Kerry was awarded three Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star and a Silver Star as commander of a Navy swift boat in Vietnam.
District Attorney John Foote released a statement Monday chiding French for bringing unwanted publicity to the suburban county's office, but stood by his employee.
"I do not personally share the opinions expressed by our prosecutor," Foote wrote. "However, all of our employees have the right to their own opinions on these subjects and to express their opinions on their own time."

There's more trouble today for Clackamas County prosecutor Al French.
He's the Vietnam veteran who called John Kerry a liar in a political commercial, then admitted that he had never witnessed Kerry in combat.
Now, The Oregonian reports that he's been put on a 30-day paid leave.
That's because he may have lied about a long-ago extramarital affair with a secretary.
French's former boss says French was asked about the alleged affair 10 years ago, but denied it.
But French acknowledged the affair in conversation with The Oregonian.
Such an affair would have violated office policy.
Because of the Kerry ad, French has been facing pickets outside his office, and complaints about unethical conduct to the state bar.
The ad was made by a controversial group called "Swift Boat Veterans for Truth."

Seems applicable
