Very true - but the point was - what good is a machine gun gonna do in a home invasion. It is not like you can keep it under your pillow.

He really shows how the media exaggerates the truth, especially concerning violent crimes. One of the things he mentioned, was that men are the least afraid, of any group, of violent crime. It's ironic, because men are more often than not, the victims of violent crime. The elderly are the most afraid, and they are the least likely victims.

Men are more bullheaded (dumb?) and the elderly are more aware of their frailties and abilities.

Studies have shown that there has been a 30% decrease in vioent crime the past 25 years. There has been a 70% increase in news reporting of violent crime in the same time period.
Fear generates viewers, viewers mean ratings, ratings mean higher advertising costs, which means more money for media outlets...

Actually crime increases during periods when the economy is bad....so actually home invasions would decrease.

Actually at least here in Vegas Home Invasion Robberies are on the rise and there have been different groups responsible for many of them.
They are an extremely violent crime in which the home owners are often beaten badly, terrorized, even killed and raped during the whole ordeal. Homeowners are really very easy targets.
If they are on the rise here I would be willing to bet they are around the country as well. It is a brutal crime and the homeowner should have the right to protect themselves!
