Or do we just like some of the Bill of Rights?

Poor legal decisions led to the seperate but equal and other crap like that. Not "States Rights" exactly. You are arguing States can opress people but the Federal government can't.

You don't need a dictatorship to have an authorian regime.

I don't think our country will return to the past by restablishing some limits on the federal government. Lets learn from the past not dwell on it. The important issue is where we are going more than where we have been.

DITTO: good discussion.
But the only way to understand where we are going is to fully understand where we have been and how we have gotten here...otherwise we are in fact doomed to repeat history and it may not be a history we are interested in repeating.

So Ryan....what do you think of sodomy? Do you enjoy it after breakfast, or after an afternoon nap?

Personally, sodomy is great for me......

I do enjoy it in the park
I so enjoy it in the dark

I like it while eating morning toast
I like it driving along the coast

I love it when we're in the Stacks
I love it just to relax

I love to do it in the grass
I do so love it, you bet your ass!

From Webster's Dictionary:

Main Entry: sod·omy
Pronunciation: 'sä-d&-mE
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English, from Old French sodomie, from Late Latin Sodoma Sodom; from the homosexual proclivities of the men of the city in Gen 19:1-11
Date: 13th century
1 : copulation with a member of the same sex or with an animal
2 : noncoital and especially anal or oral copulation with a member of the opposite sex

Main Entry: cop·u·late
Pronunciation: 'kä-py&-"lAt
Function: intransitive verb
Inflected Form(s): -lat·ed; -lat·ing
Etymology: Latin copulatus, past participle of copulare to join, from copula
Date: 1632
: to engage in sexual intercourse

Main Entry: co·i·tus
Pronunciation: 'kO-&-t&s, kO-'E-, 'koi-t&s
Function: noun
Etymology: Latin, from coire
Date: 1855
: physical union of male and female genitalia accompanied by rhythmic movements usually leading to the ejaculation of semen from the penis into the female reproductive tract; also : INTERCOURSE

personally, I believe that my wife & I have the right to either engage or not engage in sodomy. Even manual stimulation of your partner can be considered sodomy. The government has no business to determine what my wife and I do with each other as long as both of us are consenting.

Exactly! That is exactly my point. You can't hide behind the Bill of Rights and the Constitution after you violate them.

No, but if State's rights (imo total bs) violates the Bill of Rights, then the Bill of Rights should win.

I honestly believe we need a new ammendment allowing same sex marriage.

Justice O'Connor said it best when announcing her reasoing for voting the way she did. I cannot recall the exact quote but it had something to do with the idea that you cannot view what heterosexuals do in the privacy of their own room differently from what homosexuals do.

This actually brings me to a rabbit trail. I hear all the time of democrats complaining that Pres. Bush has too much power because he gets to appoint some more Supreme Court judges and they will try and change certain laws. I recently heard that 7 out of the 9 judges currently on the Supreme Court have been appointed by Republican Presidents. Is this true?

First of all, that is not going to happen. We will have a new ammandment defining marriage as a union between one man and one woman, but what you are proposing will not happen.

Then, I have a lot of respect for you Krang, but quite frankly, I don't give a crap about your oppinion that the states right are total BS. It's in the Bill of Rights, therefore it is not BS. Without the Constitution and the Bill of rights, we would be doomed.
