I know! We're usually lockstep in our opinions.

I think we do pay what's fair. Pay more for the vehicle, more for gas and more for insurance. Drive whatever your conscience allows, mine screams 4x4 Chevy.

How is this for a start ?
  • Subsidizing Airlines
  • Subsidized road building
  • Air Pollution and it's effects
  • Extensive military presence in the ME
Why do you think we have massive military presence in ME, it's to maintain our access to oil.

The more oil we use the more dependent we are on those idiots. It seems like you would like to resist or at the very least not encourage attempts to improve mpg in cars.

Part of the reason mass transit sucks in the US is that we try to do it on the cheap because the politicians know that voters want more roads and cheap gas, even if those more roads don't actually help traffic congestion.

It's ok to bailout airlines but building an effective rail network it politically taboo. Mostly because the airline and auto lobby don't want it. Rail isn't the answer everywhere, but it would be easily possible to commute by rail from Prescott or flagstaff right into downtown Phoenix

No problem with that at all if you up for a rise in gas taxes to pay to offset the pollution effects and the additional military required. You are only considering direct costs, you need to figure in indirect costs as well.

How about the additional engineering design required or medical bills for folks the big Chevys hit ?

How about my figure of $2/g ?

I'm not as concerned about the pollution as you are. You chose to drive a little car because of that, kudos to you. The military will always be the size it is, even if we all ride bikes. Eliminating full sized vehicles will increase costs for all of us. We have a fleet of full sized vans on the roads for a reason, we tried the mini-van's but the maintenance costs were outrageous and we couldn't stock everythiong we needed in them. Add a good sized tax on those vehicles and the cost of your food is going to go up. So you can pay 2 bucks a gallon more for your personal use and then pay me an additional 3 for mine and my operating costs.

My god that thing is huge! That could kill someone! j/k man.

That is way cool no doubt. I would love to see something like that here but would like to see some info comparing it to a jet liner as I think that would be the most logical competitor.

1- cost of manufacture.
2- fuel costs per passenger mile.
3- maintenance.
4- track safety.

Is it feasable to compete with the airlines?
