Neither more nor less. And although doubtless he's taking credit, none of that has much at all to do with the immediate financial crisis. Even Iraq has nothing to do with it -- other than strapping the economy generally. The economic debacle is due to risky, imprudent financial strategies.

O - the seeds of this crisis were planted decades ago... In fact, many believe it was our reaction to The Great Depression that set us on this course to ruin... Read the below description... It pretty much predicted this debacle...
Main article: Austrian Business Cycle Theory
Austrian economists also have a unique understanding of the phenomenon of business cycles and focus on the amplifying, "wave-like" effects of the credit cycle as the primary cause of most business cycles. Austrian economists assert that inherently damaging and ineffective central bank policies are the predominant cause of most business cycles, as they tend to set "artificial" interest rates too low for too long, resulting in excessive credit creation, speculative "bubbles" and "artificially" low savings.[33]
According to the Austrian business cycle theory, the business cycle unfolds in the following way. Low interest rates tend to stimulate borrowing from the banking system. This expansion of credit causes an expansion of the supply of money, through the money creation process in a fractional reserve banking system.
This in turn leads to an unsustainable "monetary boom" during which the "artificially stimulated" borrowing seeks out diminishing investment opportunities. This boom results in widespread malinvestments, causing capital resources to be misallocated into areas which would not attract investment if the money supply remained stable.
Austrian economists argue that a correction or "credit crunch" – commonly called a "recession" or "bust" – occurs when credit creation cannot be sustained. They claim that the money supply suddenly and sharply contracts when markets finally "clear", causing resources to be reallocated back towards more efficient uses.
I'm not living in a cave. I got that going for me.

No way shape or form am I implying that Bin laden had anything to do with this "crisis".
You have to admit though that the intention of AQ has always been to bring down and destroy America's financial institutions.
IMHO, the war in Iraq, from their stand point, was about draining our coffers, not about military force which they know they can't match against us.
Much like the Mujihadin (sp) did to the Soviets in Afghanistan.
Even though the bearded one had nothing to do with this, he is still smiling.
As to why feel neither more nor less safe -- I just returned from a major international counter-terrorism conference, and I can assure you -- Homeland Security has by the professionals' reports done nada, zip, zero, effes, zilch. It is barely operational.
A very recently resigned Deputy Sec'y of DHS said wistfully -- WISTFULLY -- that it was quite possible the next administration -- whoever wins -- would dismantle or massively revise and break up DHS, which has not yet gotten far enough into real functional status that it would even be missed.
Of course the breaded man is laughing -- so are a lot of people. Your opening post was a mishmash of unrelated things, which is why no one bit.

That would be a good start.
If actually alive, the bearded man's portfolio is taking a huge shot, so I am not sure he is laughing.
I do not feel unsafe now, but I didn't feel unsafe then ( from external forces )
