Sen. Bayh Didn't Tell Reid About His Plans Not to Seek Re-Election

What the heck is going on?? Is it me or does it seem like there are a larger number than normal of Dems choosing not to run again? Bayh shocks me as I always saw him as a very solid Senator with a lot of upside potential...

Sen. Bayh Didn't Tell Reid About His Plans Not to Seek Re-Election

Sen. Evan Bayh (D-IN) shocked many today with his announcement that he would not seek re-election. One of those in the surprised category - Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV).

According to a democratic source, as of 30 minutes ago, Sen. Bayh had not informed Sen. Reid of his decision. Most often, before major decisions are announced, like the one by Bayh, lawmakers will give a courtesy call to their leader to give them a heads up.

However, according to a source, Sen. Bayh did tell President Obama about his plans.

Yeah and remember that before they were flies, they were maggots.

That's offensive to maggots. Maggots everywhere are rolling in their graves.

If dems are the maggots, the pubs are the rotting corpses

Bayh really screwed the dems with this sudden move.

This snippet (from the above link) is interesting:

Quote:
The timing of the expected Bayh announcement creates a dilemma for Democrats, though, since the deadline for candidates' petitions to be submitted is Tuesday. That means Bayh's name could still be on the ballot in May's Democratic primary -- Democrats will have another opportunity to pick a candidate through a separate nominating process. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is considering whether it would be possible for a replacement to be named.
Bayh has never lost an election. I find this really odd.

Even though I didn't imply it, that comment was meant for politicians, not necessarially from any particular party.

Unless Bayh has a younger clone of himself, that seat is going back to the GOP. They could clone JFK and he'd still lose in that race. It was the strangest anomaly Bayh had ever won (basically, the Indiana GOP took the seat for granted).

Indiana wasn't GOP forever and that name resounds and has for a couple of generations.

Very powerful family and his dad was a Democrat old school style, not the current version.

Back when being a Democrat actually was in the interests of farmers and such.

So without that name, it's straight to the GOP.

I don't know anything about Indiana politics, but the leading republican nominee is a complete loser of a candidate.

I think the late decision hurts the GOP worse because they threw in some scrubs to run against Bayh. Democrats can now hand pick their nominee. Should be interesting.

This is a problem with both the dems and the GOP. The moderates, or those that lean towards the middle and are against partisanship are leaving office. Both parties have become extremely polarized and the only loser is the American people.

Self imposed term limits. If this becomes the trend it could be a good thing.

Is it self-imposed or some politician saving his ass right now because of the great political divide on the hill and in the country? I'm sure he doesn't want to be seen as one of the Dems that stood as an obstacle to his own party while at the same time doesn't want to be associated with the Dems by the conservatives.
