Republicans have always been brilliant tossing out “one-liners” like “tax and spend liberals” etc. What is interesting is that I’ve now seen a few people on this board start to refer to Obama as “Obamessiah”.
It just more or less reinforces my point that the Republican base is more easily reached and manipulated by lies and unsubstantial nonsense. They’ll run around regurgitating whatever propaganda is fed to them – which again calls into question their ability to think critically for themselves about real issues.
The system the Republicans use to brainwash their support base into propagating these negative political brands and marketing jingoism is really quite brilliant. I’m disappointed that we don’t have a nice nickname for McCain. Seems unfair…
I guess we just aint as edumacated as u sophisticated folks. som day i hop to have thunk as cleerly and critekally for meself as u do. imma wurkin on it tho, i mus be branewarshed

Congrats. Admitting you have a problem is the first step to redemption!

If that my last problem to be worked on I'd have it made!
BTW- I just learnt sumthin', Politicians are like 15 year old boys. They are both convinced they know everything and everyone else is a complete moron. Those that don't grow out of that and realize maybe they don't know everything become politicians. Or join a message board under the user name se7en.
It's not that it works on Repubs, it works on human beings.
It has been going on as long as politics, but it's much worse now because we don't question things like we once did.
People don't say hey that's bull, they buy into it. It's also doesn't reach those in newspapers or are around a guy talking in a public square, it's bombarded on every television station.
Also because it's worked, it's gone beyond the political sphere into advertising for goods to get us to buy them. In a sense they go hand in hand, except we became accustomed to believing or at the very least not questioning what is said for Camel cigarettes and how more doctors prefer Camel's than any other brand.
In other words, it's everywhere, and it desensitized us as a nation, coupled with a failing school system to create a perfect petri dish to allow a vast amount of americans to be susceptible to such ploys. Now it's a lot easier for people to do this, so when the attack ads are done, it's being done in a fashion that more easily gets by our bull detectors.
So then when the repubs amp it up the past thirty years or forty years blaming liberals, and liberal media, less government, in your bedroom, it's your money, and basically marrying what they want to what will affect you through the application of the findings in various sociological and psychologist studies, allows them to spit their venom, as ludicrous as it is, and because of the delivery system of television, it is much more effective.
Now in response to the past 30-40 years, even the dems are getting on the bandwagon, that it works. But what is grounded in fact and what is ground in fiction.
McCain will continue Bush's policies, even progress them with the very same people, or people like minded to them, from the same brood so to speak, and thus McSame, is really quite accurate. McCain like Bush doesn't have many ideas, he'll get advice from his lobbyists, just like Bush. Scary huh.
Tax and spend liberal is very inaccurate, as are most republican attack tactics.
So yes I would say that a good portion of Repubs are susceptible, because at this point a large portion of the republican base is made up of people that formed their viewpoints on topics through such bombardment over the last 40 years to the point there are very few republicans that actually stand for or remember becoming a republican for any other reason than biting into the slogans of yesteryear.
Fear and Greed + propaganda + unquestioning public + 40 years = republican party of today.
It's not that it's the true republican ideas that are more susceptible, it's that they've based everything around it for so long, it's full of them, and if the dems want to do the same, we too could go down this road, and we'll be even worse off. Yet it is hard to spin propaganda on things like Health Care, living wage, saving the environment, etc, etc.
It's much easier when you bring up taxes, big brother in the bedroom, god, your money, your safety, etc. Their positions revolve around things that get you agitated, not around things that would help out their fellow man or future generations.
At least not anymore. The republican party of today isn't what is was 40 years ago. The true conservatives have left the building, save for a few. If you notice, those that are doing the worst crimes aren't ones that were true republicans based out of the old school thinking, it's all the younger ones that did buy into the propaganda and did the things they did based off of that propaganda.
Every election they get more people to think like them, while the older truer republicans die out or are swayed by the propaganda. After 40 years, you get what we have now.

CF88, I agree that the Republican party isn't the same as it used to be, but neither is the Democratic Party. Compare Truman and JFK to Kerry, Gore and Obama and you'll see what I mean. They've gone from the party of action to the party of words. They'll promise you anything and give you nothing. Look at the current Congress. What a "freakin'" mess. There are too many factions vying for attention and the far left whackos intentionally try to keep things unbalanced.
There are no strong leaders anymore in either party. A lot of people who would make excellent presidents refuse to put theirselves through the humilation and degradation that is heaped on every candidate (Colin Powell is a great example of this). Our political system is so filled with acrimony that it is impossible for both sides to work together.
We need a new party.

Agree with you 100% there - I would like to see a centrist party as a 3rd party. I don't think it will happen however, too many people have been involved with the 2 party system for too long.
