Putin: Bush Must Win or Terrorists Will Triumph

Putin: Bush Must Win or Terrorists Will Triumph

By Simon Saradzhyan
STAFF WRITER

MOSCOW - President Vladimir Putin on Monday made his strongest endorsement yet for his friend U.S. President George W. Bush, saying "international terrorism" will claim victory over the international antiterrorism coalition if Bush loses.

"I believe that the activities of terrorists in Iraq are not as much aimed at the coalition as at President Bush personally ... The goal of international terrorism is to prevent the election of President Bush to a second term," Putin said.

"If they achieve that goal, then they will of course celebrate it as a victory... over America and, to a certain extent, over the forces of the international antiterrorism coalition," Putin told reporters in the Tajik capital, Dushanbe, after a regional cooperation conference....

Indeed. He has his own shortcomings in admitting the difficulties he faces at home, it is true, but he's doing his damndest to keep control of a tenuous country.

Too bad Chirac refuses to break protocol by endorsing either candidate - it would be a hoot to discuss!

No surprise here. The Bush administration is less likely to apply pressure with regard to terrorism-related civil rights issues.

All other countries of the world need to back off and let us in America decide who our next leader will be.

No, it's not of overriding importance to our internal politics or policies, but it is nice to know that a major world leader out there can see the blatant truth and is willing to speak up about it. Props to Putin. As to Chirac and Kerry? I hope Chirac does endorse him, as it will be Kerry's death knell, IMO.

The major difference is that we know that all the international socialists (French, Germans, etc) support Kerry. But when a former KGB agent supports Bush, it is a real story because it shows that two differing philosophies recognize that a third philosophy is such a threat that we have to support each other if we want to survive.

It does kinda crack me up that bush gets an endorsement from a former KGB agent....
