This is classic volatility that may continue all the way until the fall, greed dies hard and only loses out to fear.

There is something about winter comming I think that makes the reality hit in October, that's a good bet for when the last Bull dies.

Huh? Wait a minute!!! Worst housing declines in 16 years??? Oh my!!! 'Course, as usual, you fail to add that this comes on the back of the greatest housing boom in our history... Oh well... Yes Conrad, there is volatility. There is capitulation. I never once said there wouldn't be. A speeding bullet eventually falls to the ground. I have consistently maintained that approach. You guys crack me up!!! You continue to "predict" the collapse of the market (you've been pitching that game for what, close to a year now right??), speak of an epic economic catastrophe, and yet here we are, dealing with some uncertainty, some volatility, some speculation... How unique...
Wait, I know, I know... "within the next year", we can expect the next great depression! "Prophetic"...

I'm personally happy 82, just because IMO I see what's comming has nothing to do with how happy I am.

Concern isn't the same thing, I am concerned we spend much more than we earn, I am concerned we owe way too much debt, I am concerned that such debt exposes us to huge risks.

If we didn't have the debt, and nothing on earth says debt like that is required then maybe I'd be less concerned, the international bank article DEI posted says they're concerned also, almost alarmed in fact.

The conditions for a depression are building and have built over a long time, maybe the powers that be avert it, it's certainly possible, however historically someone always screws the pooch in these cases, we'll see I guess.

Now, now boy... take the gun away from your head! Step down and away from that window! Remove the noose from around your neck! Throw the pills down the toilet!

Reality is that, as usual, there will be a turn in the economic cycle. For some, it will hurt and in the extreme cases, it will hurt badly! For others, it will be an annoying mosquito bite... And for others, they will find a way to prosper during another inevitable and highly predictable economic shift...

I don't mind the clean out, my competition is dropping like flies, and that's a good thing, the cycles are good to clean out the pipes but this isn't your ordinary cycle, what goes up must come back to reality and sometimes it goes as badly as it went good, that's scary when you think of just how good it's been.

Not scary at all... Why in the world would any sane individual expect that the record bull run, the record economic growth and expansion would never halt? What has ever happened in the history of this planet to ever suggest that a speeding bullet would never fall to the ground?

This is why you being referred to as a "prophet" is comical at best, and more to point - just plain ignorant... I know you didn't refer to yourself as such so that's not directed at you...

There are some of you who simply enjoy the hysteria-conspiracy... You prefer the fascination and the fantasy that comes with "predicting" the next great event that will end the greatest society on the planet... I get that... makes for great reading and maybe even a decent fictious movie or play!

Facts are facts Conrad and that's undeniable. As a country, we have assumed far too much debt. We can not continue down this path - it's unsustainable... Does that equal the greatest depression in our history? Well, if it adds some excitement to your day, then yea - let's fantasize together!!
What do you think our largest cities will look like 2-3 years from now? Without any basis for funding and with our economic engines now trashed beyond immediate repair, will there be a huge exodus to the 'burbs, where at least you can grow your own food?? Personally, I'm stocking up on all types of vegatables and have carved out a 30x30 area in my back yard for my life-preserving garden!

Gee, and here I was thinking that if I rode herd with the "end of timers", you might "have a clue what I'm talking about"... Oh well... I'll just continue down my blissfully ignorant path! Later...

Oh, I thought you we're making some kind of grand prediction of economic confidence with your garden reference. But I may have given you too much credit as it only seems to be a statement of triviality toward those who may be concerned about their place in the current economic conditions.

I doesn't come across that way.

It's obvious that 82 doesn't believe or suffer fools who predict an economic collapse of biblical proportions. That is obviously the point he was trying to make.

Yeah, that seems obvious. But his mocking was clouding the issue.

Who is a fool?

BTW, the stock market collapse did not cause the Great Depression of 1929. The stock market collapse was a result of the failure of worldwide confidence in the U S Dollar. When the margins get called in due to the debt, they start jumping from the 19th floor.
