You see, nidan, it's not just conservative republican politicians that are hypocritical, but all politicians.
Maybe so but conservative republicans cloak it in a skin of religion and until you stop them doing that it taints the view of your faith by those of us who don't share it.

The Democrats in your example aren't pretending to have some divine authority behind them, many republicans do.

I guess many are content to let them do that as you keep reelecting them

But nidan, you have to see the other side. The particular sect of Christians, the ones Kolo says want a "fetus-loving, whore-hating, anti-gay bigot" in office aren't going to see the hypocracy of the people they elect on their issues. They just hope the next guy who spouts their beliefs back to them is the real deal. Unfortunately that makes them just like everyone else when it comes to politics.

What you have issue with regarding them is fundamental to the core and showing the crook behind the golden shield does not dissuade them from their causes.

Global warming is a religion... actually it has become more of a cult.
And a very good comparison.

Thats your assumption and it is often not accurate. There is nothing in the article which indicates that Erickson in any way presents himself as "religious." He may, but it's not a given.

Democrats don't pretend to have authority behind them, but rather believe themselves to be The Authority! :somewhat tongue-in-cheek:

Really, I wasn't aware of any divine inspiration associated with it ? Maybe what you are really doing is exaggerating to make it easy for you to heap sarcasm on it.

Either that or I should be able to get tax free status for starting an organization to combat global warming.

I suspect it is the first explanation though as you don't really think it is a religion or maybe you do ?

Am not claiming to be religious, so you can hardly suggest I'm going out on a limb when I call out the more radical fundamentalist Evangelicals

And yes I realize that not all Evangelicals are fundamentalists or intolerant

I think I've said many times

I am utterly sick of the fundamentalist evangelical control of the GOP and our government.

I rather like Obama's comments I posted in the Dobson thread. I think that pretty much sums up how I feel.

I have nothing against religion or people of faith nothing at all. I have nothing against Evangelicals. What I resent bitterly is the more fundamentalist Evangelicals trying to change the laws of our country and the operation of our government to mandate their view of the world into LAW.

If you aren't in part of that group ie Fundementalist, Evangelical political activist, then I have no problem with you at all.
