Police release report on suicide of 'DC Madam'

The Associated Press
7:07 AM EDT, October 31, 2008

TARPON SPRINGS - Police in Florida are affirming that the so-called "DC Madam'' committed suicide, as they close their investigation of the case.

The Tarpon Springs Police Department on Thursday released a 48-page investigative report and 400 crime scene photographs, which they hope will put an end to the speculation that Deborah Palfrey was murdered.

In May, the 52-year-old hanged herself in a shed outside her mother's mobile home. Her mother found the body. Palfrey had been convicted two weeks earlier of running a prostitution service that catered to members of Washington's political elite.

The report says the day before Palfrey died, she received pre-incarceration paperwork and watched videos of her deceased father.

Shocko. Dismayo.

She terrified the powerful and paid the price. Some things don't change the world over. Does not happen as much here but still happens.

Her problem was that she had no champions. An unknown number of legislators from both sides and both houses, the bureaucracy, and the judicial branch, all had reason to want her shut up. Probably some media and military people as well. Sad.

I think Wally is her champion. Yeah, she hung herself in the shed. Sure. Got it.
