Despite Bush's declaration of the end of hostilities over a month ago, US Soldiers continue under fire daily. 2 were killed, 9 wounded, and two are missing just today.
We need to not forget that our men and women in Iraq are still in a live war zone, subject to deadly force. The war may have moved off the front page, but it is no less a war over there still, and we need to keep our men and women in the armed forces in our thoughts.

Semantics there, Chap and BIM. Bush declared the war was over, and made it sound like it would be smooth sailing from then on.
NO HE DIDNT!
He stated that it was the end of MAJOR COMBAT and specifically stated that it would still be dangerous and that we would have many hard times ahead. He made no mention or even inferred that it was smooth sailing ahead!
Please show me the speech where he said anything other than that??????

I said at the beginning of the "war" that we should be looking in Syria or Iran and I still believe that (likely Syria).
Hostilities may never end there and more US soldiers will die and be wounded from here. That is fact. The region and country are simply too unstable...too anti-American to allow us unresisted rebuilding opportunities. In fact, I am surprised things aren't worse than they are.
I question the post combat ops plan of getting Iraq back on it's feet. Since I don't know what they specifically planned I don't blame anyone in particular but clearly their was a period where the Iraqis felt like they had beeen dropped out of the frying pan and into the fire...and maybe they still feel that way.
