I'm going there on Friday and staying until the following Thursday. What's there to do besides the Mall of America? I've been searching on the net for things to do - but any suggestions would be welcomed as well.
Thanks,
Shawn

Bring plenty of mosquito repellent.
Haven't been there in 20 years, but I do know they grow them bugs big up there!!
I went there with my best friend for Spring Break this past April. We hung out at the 5405495454 million lakes they have, almost saw a Twins game, saw all the fun little shops downtown, visited the Mall of America, etc.
I had a blast and I'm actually considering living there once I'm out of college I hope you have a good time!

Did you throw your hat up into the air while crossing a street?

Ugh - the internet sometimes is good thing and sometimes it is totally worthless.
So I've been hunting around for something to do there and I came across the Museum of Questionable Medical Devices. Unfortunately - or perhaps fortunately - I was not able to locate a website for them. Is this they best they have to offer? lol

When are you going? Do you have kids? If so, are they going and what are their ages?
What are the things you like to do? Outdoors stuff? Shopping/antiquing? Sports? Music festivals?
Give me some parameters and I will ask her for some ideas.
I'm flying tomorrow morning - but I'll get there Sunday night. I've got a couple of day stop over in Peoria, Illinois first for a wedding. Then I'll be there from Sunday and catch a return flight back on Thursday.
We've (wife and I) looked at possibly catching a comedy act on Tuesday evening there. We both are big music fans and my best friend lives there so we're going to catch some of the local music on Monday night.
Are you familiar with Flora - now called Florapop? Or the 12 Rods? There are some good local groups there and my best friends constantly sends me cds so I'm familiar with a lot of the local bands.
It's the "days" that I'm trying to fill - I think the weeknights are pretty much taken up. I know one day we are spending at the Mall of America.
It's the wife and I's first time there and no - we have no kids. More than you ever wanted to know.

Take a short roadtrip to Stillwater, I think it is called. Reminded me a bit of Prescott or Sedona. Mall of America is OK but it is just a mall. If you had kids, Camp Snoopy inside the mall is very cool (I have 2 boys).
Too bad you aren't in town this weekend since it is the Basillica Block Party. My sister is big into the local music and hits all the festivals during the year. The names of bands up there don't mean alot to me but I know she knows alot of them.
I'll ask her for some ideas.

Sculpture Gardens (Minneapolis) ~ the Sculpture gardens are outside and have some really unique art pieces. I'm pretty sure that this is still free. It's a part of the Walker Art Center (which is not free, but is worth seeing depending on what the exhibit happens to be).
The Minneapolis Aquatennial starts on the 18th and is always
fun....bands, parades, etc. If they're going to be here during that, they should check out the website, because there are WAY too many things going on for me to list them all: http://www.aquatennial.org/
Grand Avenue ~ trendy shopping area. Unique stores and restaurants. "Just Truffles" is on Grand Avenue ~ they make the truffles that Oprah gave out on her last "Best of" show. Yummy!!
Minnesota Zoo ~ in Apple Valley. The IMAX theatre is located here....I think "The Matrix" is still showing there.
Como Park Zoo ~ this one is free and much smaller than the MN Zoo. There's a conservatory on the grounds that is gorgeous in the summer when the flowers are all in bloom and a little lake where you can rent paddleboats. It's a fun place to spend a relaxing day.
Science Museum ~ downtown St. Paul. I don't know what the feature exhibit is right now, but it's usually pretty cool.
Stillwater ~ on the St. Croix river. There are river boats that you
can go on, cool stores, antiques, wine tasting. My favorite place to spend a nice day in the summer. The Zephyr train ride leaves from Stillwater and goes along the river....it's a little pricey, but it's fun. If the weather is nice, I would pick the riverboat over the train though.
This summer the Snoopy statues are Linus and they're located all around the St. Paul area. Just going to downtown St. Paul, they'd be able to see a lot of them. Most of the hotels in the St. Paul area should have a map of the locations of all of them. I know they can get a map from the St. Paul Hotel.
I don't know if the Twins are in town or not, but you can usually get tickets to those games. The St. Paul Saints (minor
league baseball) are more fun than the Twins though. The games are in an outdoor stadium and there's always a ton of entertainment going on.
Valleyfair ~ amusement park in Shakopee. Lots of rides, a waterpark. If you like rides, you can easily spend a day here.
Canterbury Park ~ horse racing track.
And of course, there's Mall Of America (Underwater Adventures, Camp Snoopy).
Thanks Audrey - much of that looks fairly interesting. I'll run it by the wife and see what she might like to do while we are there. And here I thought I was going to be bored.
