Warner, Mike Sweeney, Jeff Suppan, horrible actress from Everybody loves Raymond and Jim "POTC" Cavieviel - in opposition to Missouri Constitutional Amendment #2:
Constitutional Amendment 2
A "yes" vote will amend the Missouri Constitution to allow and set limitations on stem cell research, therapies, and cures which will:
ensure Missouri patients have access to any therapies and cures, and allow Missouri researchers to conduct any research, permitted under federal law;
ban human cloning or attempted cloning;
require expert medical and public oversight and annual reports on the nature and purpose of any stem cell research;
impose criminal and civil penalties for any violations; and
prohibit state or local governments from preventing or discouraging lawful research, therapies and cures.
A "no" vote would not ensure that stem cell research permitted under federal law is allowed to be conducted in Missouri and that Missouri patients have access to stem cell therapies and cures permitted under federal law.
This measure will have no impact on taxes.

Thanks for being consistent.
I myself believe they have a voice, even those I don't agree with. It is the public that puts them on a pedestal, it is the public that gave them a stage. If nothing else, they help to get the issues out and talked about. They should have no less political air time than self labeled experts such as political talk radio or television hosts. How are O'Neil, Limpaugh, Hannity, or Air America hosts for example any more "qualified" than Babs? This is why I don't think they should "shut up and entertain", if any Joe with a loud mouth and an opinion can get a show, than the criteria has already been set so low that I don't believe any of them have more "right" to be pushing their beliefs than anyone else. I seriously feel these radio and tv morons complaining about actors/singers is asinine. Just because they were given air time does not make them anymore qualified. Do only media bosses who hire these jokers get to decide who speaks to the American people? That doesn't sound very American to me.

Yeah, I've always thought that was hypocritical too.
"Celebrities should shut their mouths and stay out of politics" says the politically slanted radio personality.

You'll be missed.
That looks like it was made with a home video camera with the crazy echos and stuff. MJF's video was more professionally done, I would vote with him on this point alone

My guess is many of the same folks who want entertainers to "shut up", listen and watch these radio and television hosts without ever questioning that persons qualification to speak. Politics are made up of opinions, as long as you vote, I believe you have a voice.
Why should anyone be allowed to post their opinion here where they have an audience? That some will post here for others to see, their opinion that others shouldn't have an audience is absolutely hillarious.

The day I can put my voice out over broadcast TV to thousands of people as a credible voice on an issue is the day I'll be cool with Kurt Warner or Barbara Streisand doing the same.
Comparing a political ad banking on one's celebrity, to those of us posting on a message board is really a fantastic example of apples and oranges.

Ah, so it's about you!
Those people were given a stage by the public. The public has given them a voice and they have the right to use it. Does it make you equally as angry when the president speaks of religion or Crawford? Shouldn't he just shut up and only speak in terms as the President? If you don't like what someone has to say, turn it off. Do you also have a problem with celebrity interviews or public service announcements where they are outside of their specialty or showing a personal side?

Is it not a media? Does it not have a stage? How many members are there? Just because your voice isn't as loud doesn't mean there is a difference.

I only dislike it when they are pandering for votes. I don't care when Kurt is talking about how God prevented him from throwing 4 interceptions that day or whatever. I don't care when they are doing interviews and answer questions. I rather enjoy the stuff that Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon do when its not the political season, and their beliefs in what they do even if I don't agree. I'm fine with ALL of that.
But when they are paraded out as "experts" or morality police for a candidate or a hot-button issue during the political season I dislike that greatly. Their voice is no more important than anyone else's simply because they are famous, yet there they are telling a gullible public what they think and the public eats it up like idiots who can't think for themselves. I'd give Fox a pass on that commerical though, since he actually has a disease and is more interested in the issue than the common person...he's more of an expert, but I'd be far more interested in a bunch of nobodies with his viewpoint than him who is pushed because of his celebrity.

Huge difference...on all counts. It is implied credibility. And it doesn't exist.
There is a real difference between how people would react to me saying exactly what Kurt Warner says, to the same exact same people through the exact same medium. More people would "believe" or be "moved" by Kurt and not me. Implied credibility isn't real credibility...but it yields real results. That is unfortunate and yes, it is wrong.
And I don't blame the celebs for doing it...I blame the American public for being such masses of asses that they eat it up like dogs cleaning up their own vomit.

every time i walk into a grocery store some disgruntled 17 year old has access to a microphone. he can use it to tell me beets are on sale that week, or he can tell me george bush is the devil/god. guess which scenario the microphone is meant for? being the loudest asshole on the block doesn't make you any less of an asshole.
look, i'm with you that no one's opinion is any more valid than anyone else's. that's why i hate the celebrities who use that as an excuse to pontificate. they think they are doing me a favor by giving me their oh so enlightened opinion. sorry, i don't give a ish.

Fox is the perfect person to do the add. We all know who he was prior to his disease and we can see what has become of him. It makes a powerful point.
Look, I don't disagree that these folks giving their opinion is meaningless. I only differ that I have no problem with it. If Rush is given a microphone several hours a day to spew his ignorance amung his willing masses, than a Babs making a comment here and there isn't a big deal. The majority of these celeb political moments are said to a smaller audience and we only hear about it through those angry they said it. It is replayed and complained about the next week on talk radio and political shows.
When a celebrity reads a cue card like in the add with Warner, it's irritating yes, but when they speak their own words whether I agree or not I can't see it as bad.
If a celebrity is wrong to speak on topics they are not qualified to speak on, how is a politician speaking on these topics any different. They are not experts on stem cell research for example, but nobody is telling them to shut up when they give an opinion and tell the voters how to vote.
From what I have seen, and what I believe, it is conservatives by far who have a problem with this. I never did hear anyone complaining about Arnold stumping for republicans prior to becoming gov. I never heard anyone complaining about Dennis Miller or James Woods. Do you not agree that it seems to be the message that creates the anamosity?

It bothers me to no end to hear the crap spewed by conservative talk radio. Never heard more lies and spin than one hour of that crap. I've been listening the past few weeks to get a feel for what conservatives are thinking. At first I was angry that people actually buy this bs, but this past week I realized we get it from all media, even here.
There is implied credibility everywhere.
I hear you and understand your position. I think you are missing the bigger picture though. On every issue there is a host of people given a voice that have no business having one, celebrities are a drop in the bucket. Look at it this way, given that many people would agree with you, the odds are they piss of as many if not more people than the amount who take them serious.
