Kelsey Grammer to run for Senate?

Kelsey Grammer Shows Interest in Politics
Wednesday, September 24, 2003

NEW YORK — "Frasier" (search) may be ready to move from radio psychology to politics.

Kelsey Grammer might be interested in running for the U.S. Senate from California when he's finished with acting, he said Monday on "Hannity & Colmes." (search)

He won't be joining Arnold Schwarzenegger (search) on the campaign trail anytime soon. Grammer said he wouldn't start in politics until he's done acting, and there's more he wants to do with that job.

This is the final season of NBC's "Frasier."

Grammer, 48, kept his political views vague during his Fox News Channel appearance.

"I would like to try to rid the country of the idea that it's the rich against the poor," he said.

I think he is going to be substituting for Sean Hannity on his radio show today. It's either today or a week from today, I am not quite sure.

Good lord, I am growing weary of these liberal Hollywood types trying to foist their skewed point of view on us.

I'm a bit confused, isn't that the direct result of politics? Expressing your point of view, liberal, conservative, or otherwise?

Or the Republican hero of the moment, Arnold.

And don't forget Gopher from the Love Boat - he was a Republican Congressman from Iowa for years after his show sunk.....

And Charlton Heston - he has NEVER used his Hollywood fame to utter any political views

Only if your views are liberal. If your views are conservative, then you're not supposed to express them.

Not true. Except we all know that everyone that works in Hollywood and the media is far more liberal than the rest of us hard working men and women.

Give me a BREAK.

They only appear more liberal because they're always in the news. Come on, you know that. They're just as liberal as the Democrats living down your street.

No, I am afraid I must take issue with that.

We all know, after spending any amount of time on this boards, that there is a huge difference between those who make their living in Hollywood (Johnny Depp, Tim Robbins, Dean Cain, Clint Eastwood, Gopher, The Gipper, and now, seemingly, Kelsey Grammer) and those of us on Main Street in Anytown USA.

How would you know that? Know the aforementioned personally?

Besides, whats the difference between a famous actor using his noteriety to express his political views, regardless of slant than say a professional athlete, or even famous military mind?

Youre just bagging on Hollywood becasue the majority have a liberal view. You object to the view, not to those who espouse them. Youre pissed becasue they have undue access to a forum that everytown USA people don't.

Lets keep things in perspective here. I dont hear you complaining about Reagan using his popularity to rise to the presidency. I dont hear you complaining about Sonny Bono (SONNY BONO!!!!) using his. I don't hear you complainging about Charlton Heston using his notoriety to spout pro gun stances across the globe.

Lets have a little balance here!

Most of Hollywood stars are democratic. Last Presidential election Ben Affleck campaigned hard for Al Gore. Martin Sheen did a national commercial for the Democratric party. There are many many more celebrities from the democratric party. I hope you are also sick of them pushing their political views too.

Arnold is not really a republican. He is an economic republican but a social democrat. There is so much more to being republican then economics.

So what if most are Democratic? Should they not be allowed to speak freely? If you don't want to hear what they say, don't listen. To suggest that they should not be able to speak freely is very Ashcroft of you.

I guess we shouldn't allow Country and Christian stars to speak either, most of them are Republicans so I have to put up with their BS all the time. But it is their right to speak out.

And who appointed you the arbitor of what makes a Republican? The Republican Party was founded on a liberal basis. Goldwater, Rockefeller etc would all be called social liberals. The Republican Party was full of economic conservatives, but socially moderate or liberal, until the Religous Right hi-jacked the party and drove most of the moderates out.

You mean I shouldn't paint everyone with the same broad brush?

Hollywood doesn't always automatically equal far left liberal?

All media types don't simply pander to the left?

Johnny Depp shouldn't just "stay in France then"?

What are you trying to do, Wiz? It appears you just want to complain about Hollywood being liberal. Who cares? Dave's post earlier was a perfect response, and Jon's addition of "if you don't like what they say, don't listen" is good advice.

I actually follow that advice whenever Rush Limbaugh is in the news, so there you go...

Actually, my point is just the opposite.

Too often we hear about " all the liberal media" or "everyone in Hollywood is way left of the average american.
