So, I guess when Iran said they would respond by 8/22, this is what they had in mind? That was the first and last doomsday prophecy I will ever buy into....

This isn't a joke, though. Happened today ... or yesterday there, now. Maybe it is a joke. Maybe August 22 is Iranian All Fool's Day!

BUCHAREST, Romania (AP) — A Romanian oil rig off the coast of Iran came under fire from an Iranian warship and was later occupied by Iranian troops, a company spokesman said.
The Iranians first fired into the air and then fired at the Orizont rig, said GSP spokesman Radu Petrescu. Half an hour later, troops from the ship boarded and occupied the rig and the company lost contact with the 26 crew members shortly afterward.
Petrescu said he had no information about any injuries or deaths. The Orizont rig has been moored near the Kish island in the Persian Gulf since October 2005, he told the Associated Press.
Eugen Chira, the political consul at the Romanian Embassy in Tehran confirmed the incident, but provided few details.
“Some forces opened fire. That an incident has happened is true. We have no details or the reason yet,” he said.

Some reports are now creeping out that the US and Israel are very disturbed that Iran's Electronic Warfare program is far, far beyond anything that was expected -- they were able to jam or otherwise guard against Israel's attempts to access or interfere with Hizbullah's Iran-made EW gear -- AND they successfully interfered or eavesdropped on Israeli communications, and interfered with Israel's EW defense and offense capability. For ex, the one ship that got hit had its missile-reading system jammed from shore. That, reportedly, was what some of the later infrastructure hits against targets like lighthouses, army 'barracks' and cell phone towers were actually about.
The US and Israel have been jointly developing this program, and had no idea just how advanced Iran had gotten -- so back to the drawing board. I had read in a defense newsletter that Israel put the new jointly-designed EW system in place four months ahead of schedule when the conflict started, basically trial by fire rather than the planned series of final tests -- looks like it failed. Hunh. What a surprise. In retrospect, they say some of Iran's late-Spring naval war games should have tipped them off to the high level of EW technology, but they were all gloating about the 'old' missile technology in use.
Of course the IDF told my tour group in June Hizbullah had electronic communications and weapons gear that was 'pure James Bond stuff -- absolutely state of the art.'
It does make me think... OK, Iran has EW capabilities that are considerably beyond what the US or Israel had expected --
So what else do you think maybe Iran has developed way beyond anyone's expectations, hmmm?
Frickin' hubris gets you every time. The good news is, hubris is an equal-arrogance leveler, and Iran is certainly peacocking around.

Not to mention yesterday's display of radio controlled toy planes blowing up balloons.
I'm sure the US plan to attack Iran by balloon has been put on hold because of that one.
