Has anyone else watched the Showtime show by magician's Penn & Teller?
I saw the shows on Green Peace and Peta, and I have to say that both organizations are full of it.
Stefan is partially right about the enviromental movement; the show showed that many of the followers of the movement are just stupid liberals that are anti-capitalists. I mean, I know they are biased to some extent, but the truth still showed through.
One of the former founders of Green Peace, left GP because of this, and the enviromental hysteria. They talked about how GP, and other enviromentalist groups blame loggers for the extinction of species. Think about it logically; how can loggers kill off so many species (one group claimed that they help to kill off 50,000 species per year

)?
And Global warming? The extremists (that's what most of the one's portrayed were) claimed that the world would be nearly unlivable in 50 years. We empirical data doesn't support that, in fact it routinely shows that the world is improving because of better technology in industry, even in third world countries. Last century, the earth "warmed" by about 3 degrees, not exactly a crisis.
They went to one enviromental wacko pow wow, and pulled a trick on them. They went around telling the people of the dangers of hydrogen dioxide. They claimed that it was poisonous, and that it was becoming a huge enviromental threat. All the enviromentalist they showed, obviously didn't get it. See, hydrogen dioxide is just a fancy way of saying WATER! None of the enviromentalists had a clue, and all of them were signing the petition.
The clear conclusion from watching that episode, is that enviromental issues should not be ignored (saving endangered species and having good enviromental policy) but we aren't exactly in a crisis and things are improving).
Peta is even more lame; Peta claims that they want animals ethically treated, yet they don't believe in owning pets. They compare owning pets to having slaves. So what, are we supposed to just free all dogs, cats, ferrets, hamsters, etc.? Anyone with half a brain, can see that would cause MORE harm. Animals would be breeding like crazy living in our urban world.
And Peta kills animals every year. Last year, Peta euthanized over 1,000 animals at their headquaters. I thought they believed in ethical treatment, is killing an animal unethical? Shouldn't they try and find a home for the animals?
Another point that was mentioned is that Peta is against animal testing. What's ironic, is that the second in command of Peta is a type 2 diabetic! She routinely uses drugs/treatments that are tested on animals! HYPOCRITE! The fact of the matter is that animal testing in the medical world has saved millions, if not billions of human lives. The effects on animals is worthwhile if it saves humans. Try telling that it isn't worthwhile to a child in China who needs a influenza vaccine.
Ridiculous, absurd, illogical...these words come to mind when I think of these groups now...
