Gazing at our navels, we slowly sink into the morass

Under GWB our foreign policy and foreign economic policy has been SO EFFING BAD it makes me cry with frustration.

Quote:
China hopes to expand its growing economic and political clout at the Nonaligned Movement summit, influence that analysts say will come at the expense of the United States, which passed up a similar invitation to attend as an observer.

Led by China’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Yang Jiechi, the Chinese delegation plans to hold bilateral meetings with a number of Latin American countries and strengthen China’s ties to the region where its trade has soared. China’s imports from Latin America quintupled to $20.3 billion and exports to the region tripled to $15.4 billion from 2000 to 2004, according to the International Monetary Fund.

The administration of President George W. Bush has declined to attend the summit, and a press officer at the U.S. Interests Section in Havana said it wouldn’t comment on the Nonaligned Movement.

That’s a mistake, according to Latin America analysts who have tracked declining U.S. influence in a region where it can no longer count on the unconditional support of political leaders, even though U.S. trade remains the most powerful engine for their economies.

Quote:
Under the new Iran-Nicaragua pact, Iran will fund a farm equipment assembly plant for 4,000 tractors, four hydroelectric plants, five milk-processing plants, a health clinic, 10,000 houses and two piers in the western port of Corinto. In exchange, Nicaragua will export coffee, meat and bananas to Iran.

Quote:
Iran signed an agreement on Tuesday on the setting up of a planned 300,000 barrel per day oil refinery joint venture in Indonesia, together with a Malaysian partner, Iranian officials said. The construction of the refinery, which will use Iran's heavy crude oil as feed, will cost $5-6 billion.
Quote:
Even as India's nuclear deal with the US remains stuck in domestic politics, the government Wednesday said India has finalized the texts of civil nuclear agreement with Russia and France and is interested in nuclear cooperation with all friendly countries.

The Gulf States are vying with China for influence in sub-Saharan Africa, shifting tens of billions of investments there and what's more, their corporations are now funding and providing infrastructure development. Of course China has been doing this for several years in our absence.

I actually heard someone utter this following phrase, this morning.

" We can still win the war ".

I am just stunned that it still comes up.

What is their to win?

So far;

4,000+ dead U S Soldiers

200,000 + physically and psychologically injured U S military personnel

1,000,000 + dead Iraqis

Turned the Mid East into a raging cauldron of hate

economy is destroyed with a 3 trillion $ debt

Infrastructure of our domestic property utterly ignored to an appalling condition

Incurred the wrath of just about every government in the world.

A White House and Congress that are so at odds that they may never function appropriately again.

So I wonder what we have won so far.

PS. Thanks for our cheap gas Bushco.

You'll see it in November. I have a strong feeling its going to be a 1964 level win for the Democrats.
