Judge Richard Kramer of San Francisco County's trial-level Superior Court likened the ban to laws requiring racial segregation in schools, and said there appears to be "no rational purpose" for denying marriage to gay couples.

I agree. However, marriages have religious conotations. The govt should recognize all contractual relationships as civil unions and let churches see them as marriages. Civil Unions between man and woman, woman and woman and man and man should have the same legal protections.

To me, this seems like a compromise, because of the religious aspect the thought of a "marriage" envokes.

We should have the terms Marriage A and Marriage B. Marriage A will have the religious connotations and Marriage B will just be a union between two people legally recognized by the state.

But seriously, I don't care what it's called - I just hope that gay people will someday have the same rights as other married couples.

That's alright, O'Connor and Stevens will go away soon. Until then, just put marriage protection act on ballots in individual states and pass ammendments to state's constitutions.

Oh... and Santorum in '08!

Oh... and Santorum in '08!

Just like those activist judges that threw out "separate but equal" eh?

And Santorum is losing his Senate race in '06......
