I take the bus to work. No audio. No nothing. Most of the time I don't even get a seat. It's public transportation and I think the public should be required to provide their own time-passing device -- privately, without "sharing" with me.
If it's against the rules to bring a "boom box" on the bus to blast people with whatever, the bus drivers shouldn't have any special priveleges either.
Problem is this - the action taken by ASU violates free speech by targeting 1 not all...ASU is leaning on a business to prohibit bus drivers from listening to 1 station from 1 bus. No other radio station is prohibited - thats wrong.

Actually all stations have been banned. Don't know how it went down but ASU denies banning just one station.

Uhmmm...no only KTAR.

Effective immediately, radio station 92.3 is not to be broadcast in any ASU shuttle bus. There have been several complaints made by students to the ASU Transportation Department regarding the content of the music and programming being played by this station. It has been deemed to be offensive and distasteful.
While on duty, only a very generic station should be aired or, ideally, the radio need not be played at all.
Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated.
Thank you. Fred Seibel

Ah. There were several different stories reported yesterday.
Once again, I don't have a problem with this, and students are more than welcome to complain if/when AA/1490 gets play. The best solution remains just turn the radio off. As censorship violations go this is pellet in a world of monster turds.

If it was only your product being banned from a major university I doubt you'd weigh it as a pellet.
I also doubt the bus drivers who go through the monotonous job of being on the bus all day through the same daily route share yer perspective.
These folks should be allowed to play the station they want to at least make their job a little more enjoyable for them.
Perhaps "NO RADIO" can be touted as the best solution... but then what will drown out the loud headphones?

This has never been an issue for Valley Metro drivers. Loud headphones aren't really a problem if you've ever ridden a bus and tried to even hear yourself think over the drone of those huge (poorly maintained) transmissions.
Please enlighten me. What's the communist element?
He was a bit out of date...maybe he mean't more "extremist"...

Pakistan:
Bus drivers threatened not to play music
An organisation called Mujahideen Bajaur has warned public transport drivers in Bajaur to stop the “un-Islamic act” of playing music in buses, reported The Dawn – Pakistan's most widely circulated English language newspaper
According to Mujahideen Bajaur, playing music in buses is an un-Islamic act which should be stopped. It's leaflets written in Pushto have been distributed in in many parts of the Bajaur agency, asking drivers of public transport to follow the order or “face the consequences”.
Bajaur agency is a hilly area located on the Pakistan-Afghan border, one of the regions which unconfirmed rumours say is a possible hiding place of Osama bin Laden.
Mujahideen Bajaur can be translated to something like "Holy Warriors of Bajaur", since “mujahideen” means “the warriors who carry out Jihad”.
Officials are quoted in The Dawn as saying that the political authorities have started investigation into the matter.
Previously, similar pamphlets have been distributed in Bajaur region, asking barbers to stop shaving and trimming beards in their shops, as both were "un-Islamic", reported The Dawn on 25 February 2007.
