Excerpt from O'Reilly interview with Robert Duvall

O'REILLY: Now, if you watch "The Factor," what is it with the Hollywood pinheads on the left? I mean, we're getting it — you're not like that and a lot of the actors call me themselves and say, "Look, we're not all crazy left-wingers. How did that happen in Hollywood, where it got the reputation of being a far-left enclave?

DUVALL: I think that's true in every country. I think that's true in all of Europe. Everybody when they go left, extreme left, it's kind of assuages the guilt. Because then it's done with and they can get on with their lives.

O'REILLY: What guilt?

DUVALL: Well, of having money, of having, you know, more privileges than the underdog. I think it's kind of a bubble out there. But there're very good people that are liberals, and they're very good people that are in the middle of — it's a capitalistic society out there.

40, I like how you always say that Actors should STFU and act and their words have no credibilty, yet you contradict yourself with posts like this...

Charlie Sheen's paranoid delusions get dozens of posts, but Duvall's harmless and somewhat insightful social criticism shouldn't see the light of day? Give 40 and Kilgore a break.

That's not at all what he said. I don't believe LIAC has ever complained about an actors opinion on politics. He is only asking 40 why an actor should shut up and act, doesn't deserve to be recognized for thier opinion(40's words)...UNLESS 40 agrees with it.
That's all...post away.

Not having seen any of the earlier threads, I can only guess at what they were like. However, I do think the question of qualifications is relevant regarding actors' opinions. In this case, Duvall is speaking of something of which he has firsthand knowledge/observation. It is therefore not difficult to take him seriously on this topic. In contrast, I did hear Sheen say something pretty wacky about the twin towers (looking like they came down in a controlled demolition, if I remember correctly), which is a topic he knows far less about than acting. It is therefore easier to blow him off as irrelevant, on that topic, IMO.

Hey, I posted that for the insight Duvall gave on why he feels actors are mostly far left. I have no idea whether it's correct or not, but it sure does make sense. How you can consider this a contradiction is beyond me. I didn't say anything about it.

I guess I'll just have to go back to posting only emails I receive.

This is exactly my intent, thanks KLOD...

I found the thread (I couldn't resist doing a search for "moonbat"). It's late, and I can't go through the whole thing tonight anyway, but I started reading and I couldn't get past the first paragraph!

Quote:
Actor Charlie Sheen has joined a growing army of other highly credible public figures in questioning the official story of 9/11 and calling for a new independent investigation of the attack and the circumstances surrounding it.
I about blew chicken curry out my nose!

I'll check the thread again tomorrow and see if it has gotten any less ridiculous.

Actually, it's just an opinion. That he too is an actor really isn't relevant. It wasn't posted, but right after this little section of the interview you posted he tells O'Rielly he has met the actors he's being asked about (Penn, Sheen), but he doesn't really know them. So Duvall has about as much knowledge on these folks as they do about politics.

I like Duvall, I like him much more than Sheen for certain. Sorry to see he stooped into an interview with O'Rielly, but no harm done. He was careful not to give Bill anything to run with.
