To ensure we Americans never offend anyone -- particularly
fanatics intent on killing us -- law enforcement and security
screeners are not allowed to "profile" people in public places or
security checkpoints. However, they will continue to perform
random searches of 80-year-old women, little kids, airline pilots
with proper identification, Secret Service agents who are members
of the President's security detail, 85-year-old congressmen with
metal hips and even Medal of Honor recipients. But targeting
Middle Eastern male Islamists between the ages 17 and 40
constitutes "ethnic profiling."

Between 1970 and present, there were more than 60 other notable
examples of terrorism perpetrated by Middle Eastern male
Islamists between the ages 17 and 40, but we think you get the
point. Singling out "Middle Eastern male Islamists between the
ages 17 and 40" is not "ethnic profiling," it's "terrorist
profiling" -- acting on prolific evidence.

Maybe if someone wants to make a point about the validity of ethnic profiling they should use better arguments. There's room for reasoned debate. The article was race bating.

What the hell does that mean? "Jihadihaveabomb?" For all you know I would say that Racial Profiling is a misnomer. Focusing on Muslims (when it's known that Islamists are plaanning terrorist strikes) is akin to following up on an APB.
Here's a clue, whem you want to dispute something someone says, why don't you actually speak to what they're saying instead of jumping to conclusions and creating a strawman. Read up on logical fallacies while you're at it.

Hmmmm, RR, you don't see a pattern that was developed in that article? I could just have easily listed all the places in the world where there is war and fighting and killing. In 99% of those cases, it would be Muslims that were involved. As Americans, we need to wake up and see exactly what we are facing.
Common sense is not ethnic profiling IMO. The article is written by a conservative who is also a smart ass. It seems to me that bothers some people here much more than the point he was making. Sometimes I think liberals and conservatives hate each other more than they do our enemies. That is both sad and pathetic.

If profiling is not ethnic, but actuarial, just exactly like your car insurance and health insurance rates, is there a problem? Statistical probabilities indicate that while most Arab or Muslim travelers are not terrorists, most modern transportation-focused terrorists are Muslim or Arab. In the same way, most violent attacks on abortion clinics are extremist fundamentalist Protestant Christians, so when the FBI looks for suspects, would you start in a Jewish nursing home? Most Serial Killers are white males, etc etc etc, so profilers don't normally start with single female grade school teachers under 5 foot four, now do they?
Ben Gurion Airport, and especially El Al, engage in open profiling. It means that all Arabs, Muslims, and SE Asians get extra-careful one on one, and often two on one, interviews and double or triple baggage checks, because statistically, they are far and away the highest risk group for terrorist acts. They ALSO put 18-40 year-old single white European women through nearly as stringent a process, because actuarially, they have been increasingly identified as willing or unaware mules for Arab 'boyfriends.' (Though I am older than that, all single travelers get some extra attention, and I can vouch -- their interrogators are just that: interrogators. We aren't talking an untrained ticket agent asking the routine things in a bored voice.) Me, I'm fine with it. Profile away.

You are aware Castro is dying? As of 2006, Islamic terrorism IS a bigger threat than a nuclear-armed Castro. Especially because a nuclear-armed Iran IS nuclear-armed Islamic terrorists. Radical Islamic terrorism is as big, and maybe a bigger, threat than Soviet Communism ever was. Its got more adherents, a much wider global base of operations, is incredibly wealthy, has insinuated into legitimate business as well as organized crime, and has definite potential to control of much of the world's energy resources.
