We are at a crossroads Arthur and if we don't do something shortly, we will completely deplete the worlds' energy supplies and then be in a real pickle.
We are testing hydrogen power cells right now and they are the most promising new energy source we have at this date. They are fueled by hydrogen of which we have an abundant supply and the only bi-product is water. Any combustion engine being driven by gas right now (vehicles, generators, etc.) can be replaced by these fuel cells. They are light weight, small and adaptable. They create electricity so your next alternate fueled car will be an electric car driven by one of these fuel cells. No heavy batteries or CO2 spewing out of the exhaust, only fresh, clean water (H2O).
The hold-ups right now are the oil lobbying groups, a need to reduce the size of the cell, and a cheap, efficient way to convert air or water into straight hydrogen to fuel the cell.

Well, wouldn't it make sense that as the population of the US increases so does our consumption of oil?
That didn't come out right....
I meant no matter how much oil we get our needs are exponentially increasing. Thus, the oil in the world is exponentially decreasing. The population is also exponentially increasing.
It's pretty scary when you consider how much time we will have oil if consumption and pop growth continue at their present rate!

Cool!
I read in some magazine an article about Hydrogen cell powered cars. They look pretty neat! (especially the view as the prototype has the winsheild going down to the floor)
