C'mon Elton. Did ya hear what happened at the Democratic fund raiser with Whoppi and Chevy Chase? Afraid? They ought to be ashamed. And what about Michael Moore?

Yep and if you criticize Bush you get accused of being unpatriotic
Last time I checked, free speech in this country does not just apply to liberals; it applies to everyone. If someone wants to call a liberal unpatriotic, more power to them.
Believe me, people call me a pothead for being a supporter of the legalization of marijuana. Do you think I care?

The problem comes when the people dumping on you for having a legitimate opinion are the people in power. That starts to get a little scary.
In your case you are not critizing the people in power then being attacked by those same people. You just, for some strange reason think that legalizing pot (whic is less harmful that tobacco) would reduce crime and increase tax revenue. Sorry that makes way to much sense, you must be a communist.

People with power also are protected under the First Amendment, last I checked.

You have obviously never asked a Republican their thoughts on the legalization of marijuana, have you?

Nope, not a communist, my friend. Just a Libertarian who wishes that the government would stop burdening everyone with taxes and big government spending programs, and that government could get out of everyones personal business.

I'm sorry, I thought that my sentiment was obvious. I was trying to agree with you while adding a little humor. I never actually thought you were a communist
As for the folks in power yes they do have the same first ammendment rights as we do, when speaking for themselves. When speaking for the governement they need to be a little more concerned how their comments will be interpreted.
Its a question of hats, is which hat are you wearing when you open your mouth. Its is not unlike campaigning. Theoreticly, when the president campaigns, the travel and expenses come out of his pocket. While some of it does, if you believe that he (or ant president) does not abuse his office to get extra free coverage/travel, then I have some swamp land in FL I'd like to talk to you about.
She cracked some jokes and lost her job less than a week later?
It's called the free enterprise system. If you work for a conservative boss and you start making fun of his core values and people he might admire, not to mention him getting tens of thousands of emails protesting Whoppi's ill manners, you will get your ass fired every time. Try doing something that will cost the company you work for 25% of it's income and see what happens. Stupid is as stupid does and Whoppi is a great example of this.

Thanks... I actually got the joke after posting my message.

Fair enough. I just find that there is plenty of rhetoric as damaging as being called "unpatriotic" coming out of both parties.

This is no different than any other reelection bid over the years. It is unfair that he will use some of his presidential events to his advantage, but it would be short sighted to say that Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagan, or any other presidential candidate up for reelection didn't do the same.
I like to think of it like this: Presidents basically take the whole reelection year to worry about their campaign than their job. Its a tragedy, but we couldn't have one term presidents, could we?
