I was about to post this thread.

I'm a proponent of affirmative action. And I am white, so it doesn't benefit me.

A professor from ASU was on the radio after the decision was announced and indicated that ASU - and many other public universities - use the same policies as the Michigan Law School.

A person should succeed based on the merits of their mind, not the color of their skin.

But what if someone is at a disadvantage to begin with (like many minorities)?

Example? If it can be proven that a white man who is less qualified has been accepted to a school over a poor black man who is just as good or better, then there is a problem, and instituting a mandatory guideline isn't going to help solve it.

If a black man from a poor neighborhood is more qualified to attend a school over a white man from a middle-class neighborhood, then the black man should attend.

Doesn't much matter. Once the Supreme Court gives its blessing it's here to stay. Any schools not doing it, are sure to jump on board.

Affirmative Action is the biggest slap in the face to minorities. I would rather see people make it on their own accord.

So would most people.
The trick is making sure everyone can make it on their own accord, and not be hindered by race, gender, etc. And I don't think we live in a colorblind society yet.

Well how can there be a colorblind society? Imagine I am a white guy and I have a 4.0 GPA and I get passed over by a black guy with a 3.8 or less GPA...don't you think that I am going to be jaded because he is deamed more acceptable than I am because he is a little more tanned than I am. Complete bull****, we are not born racist, it is a product of our society and Affirmative Action is a root cause of this.
