Conservatives...SSSHHHH!
Don't let the left wing know that a recent ABC News Poll shows GW's Approval Numbers up 8%, his approval on Iraq up 10%...and that 65 % believe U.S. is making significant democratic progress - an 18% increase from their last poll.

That must have taken a lot of thought.

I thought GW and the Pubs didn't care about polls, but they sure have done a good job at getting out their 'message' lately in a very transparent effort to bring those sagging numbers up.
So what is his approval rating now? 49% WOW...

Approve Disapprove
Terrorism 56% 44%
Ethics 48% 49%
Overall Job 47% 52%
Economy 47% 52%
Iraq 46% 53%
Health Care 37% 57%
Immigration 33% 58%
There is a reason ol' GW always goes to the War well: Its the only thing he has to hang his hat on.
That is the only rating north of 50%. Its better than it was before, but its kind of like being happy that you passed a class because you got a D-Minus.

Not according to this poll: http://www.cnn.com/2005/POLITICS/12/...oll/index.html
Bush is the worst political public speaker I have seen. How anyone was moved by any of those speeches is beyond me.

His recent strategy has been fairly savvy.
He would earn big points if he dropped the drilling in Alaska.

I don't understand why an Arctic drilling provision is riding on a defense bill. Is he blatantly stuffing the coffers of his oil buddies? Is he setting it up for next election so teh GOP can attack anyone who votes against it and do a Swift Boat style slandering? I can see it now:
"Democratic candidate voted NO on the 2005 defense bill. He didn't want our troops to have what they need. Democratic candidate: wrong for our troops, wrong for America...."
Seems to fit their style....

It's the same tactic both parties use. I imagine a lot of pork gets stuffed in social projects by Democrats.
It's especially crucial since it is a faily unpopular issue, so it avoids calling out Senators who support it in a direct vote.

I understand the concept of pork. However, I do not understand "porking" this bill. I think it is a very important bill to get passed. Why jeopardize the defense bill in a time of war? This type of pork could either get this bill delayed or denied. Either way, it's a bad thing....

Because we are two weeks to the start of an election year.
This is how dirty two party politics are right now. We are just at the base of the mountain of cynicism that will be foisted upon America.
