Cheney Asserts Right to Declassify Documents

http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/wireStory?id=1624900

Nice preemptive strike by Dick. I don't doubt that he has that authority in general, but I question whether that authority was properly applied in those whole mess. In other words, just because he is VP doesn't mean he can declassify stuff by fiat willy-nilly. There must be a certain procedure he has to follow to do it properly. Was that followed here? Or is this just an after the fact reconstruction of why he let some of this stuff loose for politcal reasons??

This guy has no moral code...He is pure crud, evil, and self serving facist.

Question: Let me ask you another question. Is it your view that a vice president has the authority to declassify information?
Cheney: There is an executive order to that effect.
Question: There is.
Cheney: Yes.
Question: Have you done it?
Cheney: Well, I've certainly advocated declassification and participated in declassification decisions. The executive order --
Question: You ever done it unilaterally?
Cheney: I don't want to get into that. There is an executive order that specifies who has classification authority, and obviously focuses first and foremost on the president, but also includes the vice president.
