Analytical Election Exercise?

Hey everyone.

By now we all pretty much know where each other stands on politics in general and the issues in specificity.

However, the Presidential Election is upon us and it promises to be a very intriguing campaign.

I was wondering if there would be any interest at all in discussing the election from an analytical viewpoint. For instance, one of the candidates says or does something and we talk about what that does for him and/or his opponents, will it help him, that type of thing. I’m not looking to make personal political commentary and am really not in the mood to see it either. We have enough of that on other threads. I’m offering substantive discourse.

I just thought it might be an interesting exercise, that’s all. We could attempt to handicap the candidates as objectively as we can every month, we could share and examine polling data, things like that.

Any interest? Any comments?

Sean

I think the better idea would be for the Republicans on the board to objectively and analytically view the moves the Dems make during the election and vice versa. Would make it more interesting since the other way will disintegrate into another chaos fest.

Dem candidate does A and the Republicans on this board would have to argue why it worked or didn't work (WITHOUT letting personal belief system get in the way) and the Dems on the board would have to counter the Dems tactic from a Republican perspective.

Maybe we could break down some of the ridiculous walls built up.

Thanks for bringing this up. It allows some things to be ironed out.

While I think there should be discussions on election issues, I contend we already do this in the normal course of this board. What I’m offering/suggesting is analytical interpretation of the election.

I think we could be quite nonpartisan about this. Say Candidate A gives a proposal. I don’t want myself or someone else talking about how liberal it is, yadda yadda yadda. By the same token, if Bush says something, I don’t want DBackJon evoking the radical right, yadda yadda yadda. I’d rather discuss how Candidate A’s proposal or Bush’s speech affects the election. How will it help/hurt the candidate, how will it affect the other candidates, who will respond well to it and who won’t.

Am I not being clear? I want to make sure I’m getting my intention across.
