Not sure what anyone else thinks, but I'd NEVER upgrade an operating system...always start fresh.

You'll need to back up what she needs to save, then wipe the hard drive and install XP. I think the XP install disk will walk you through formatting the disk before installation.

But honestly, if you upgrade, you probably will run into funky errors down the road.

I think you can only upgrade to XP home from ME. You can buy the upgrade and still start fresh with the operating system. During installation it will ask you for the ME disk. If you have a computer that only has a "reinstallation disk" and not the actual os from Microsoft then you may consider a wipe out and reload of ME then an immediate upgrade to XP before ME gets screwed up.

In my experience the upgrade procedure works well if the origional OS does not have any major issues. If it does you are just taking those issues with you in most cases.

Good luck.

I have upgraded many a computer to XP with no problem.

You can upgrade or start fresh either will work out fine. The main point is GET RID OF ME it is horrible.
