Does the site not have one because there's the possibility that it will have very low traffic (wasted space)?
I would hope more women would join this site and want to post about the Mercury if they saw a forum for it.
I understand that the WNBA isn't well-received by most, but it just seems odd that this board has all the major teams but the Mercury.
edited to add: i meant to say phoenix mercury FORUM, not board.. derrr

Sorry you feel that way.
Obviously my opinion of the WNBA is a bit different.
Phoenix has the #1 pick in this year's draft and I'm excited that we'll pick Diana Turaisi (sp?). She'll bring a lot of excitement to the fans and to the team. Anyhoo....

I am a big fan of WNBA, but we only had like two people post on the old site WNBA forum.

Well, I'm glad to hear you're a fan of the WNBA
Hey, how did you end up being a fan of the Suns anyway?

I was at a Washington Caps game a couple days ago and looking up in the rafters they have four banners hanging for the WNBA Washington Mystics. What do they say? "Attendance Champions 2000" "Attendance Champions 2001" etc etc.
I am not going to sit here and bitch about how the WNBA sucks, but hanging banners in the rafters for attendance? Does the normal NBA do that? Don't they rope off whole sections of arenas for the WNBA because no one ever sells out a game? It screamed pathetic to me.
The WNBA is never going to be the NBA. It will never generate as much fans or as much money as the NBA. Which is fine. The WNBA isn't the NBA and it shouldn't strive to be (in certain aspects).
So they award banners for the team with most attendance. I agree it's not the most awe-inspiring thing in the world, but for a league that's plagued by low-attendance, those banners are an accomplishment in its own right.
IMO of course.

Yeah thats great and all, I never said they were going to be the NBA.
But hanging a banner in the rafters is for stuff like players who were legends for your franchise, or championships. Not the fact that you had half your arena full for a season.
Like I said, I don't want to talk crap about the WNBA, it was just an observation I made on Friday night at the arena. To be honest, I had to ask the guy next to me if the WNBA was even still around.
Most people would have no problem with the WNBA if it promoted itself for what it is: a glorified women's college basketball league. They play with the smaller basketball, shoot a college 3-pointer, only play 2 20 min halves, etc. yet they came on all strong with the "We Got Next" campaign. It's ridiculous to try and promote this league as the same as the NBA, only for women. That's just not the case. Want respect? : play with the same rules and regulations that the men do. Then at least your promotions will make sense.
And what's with best of 3 deciding the championship?

WNBA is a very young league. NBA wasn't great when it first began. I've been watching it for four years now, and one thing I noticed is that it keeps getting better.
First season I watched it was horrible- you had Cooper, Swoopes, Leslie, and that's about it. Then I saw Jackie Stiles play in college, and I decided to give WNBA another shot, and it was much better than the previous year.
Now, you have a bunch of good teams, bunch of great players, and it all keeps getting better. Leslie, Swoopes, Catchings, Jackson, Bird, Peneciero, the list can go on.
Sure, they can't play 12x4, they don't have the NBA three point line, so what? It is mistake to equate WNBA with NBA. WNBA is not NBA- it is WNBA, and just take it for what it is. Instead of criticizing and trying to find faults with it- take it for what it is sit down and enjoy it. It keeps getting better, and who knows how good it is going to be one day.

I don't compare the two because I don't even watch the NBA anymore, and haven't in several years.
I used to be a HUGE basketball fan - it was my favorite sport. Used to play ball every day even though I am a short guy with no hops. Used to just run point and loved to drive and dish the ball. I grew up when the Suns were the only pro team in town (well, except for the Phoenix Pride soccer team and the Firebirds I guess ). Loved watching Tom Chambers and KJ and Hornacek and all that before Charles came to town, 93 was something else.
I had the NBA League pass for a couple years and used to watch 2 or 3 different games every night in college. Got lucky enough to win the season ticket lottery at UA 3 times - one year was when the cats won the title.
But I think the NBA is degrading quickly, and when they had the lockout I completely lost interest in that league. I haven't come back to it.
So I don't compare the WNBA and the NBA, because I don't watch either anymore, if anything, I would say that they both suck.

Likewise. Me & my friends used to watch EVERy Suns game we could - weeknights even. We'd gather at a sports bar & watch a Tues night game vs the Clippers....it's amazing - we used to live, breathe, & sleep the Suns.
When I lived in Northern VA - we even went to the Bullets games - I went to 12-15 a year in the mid 90s. The strike/lockout ruined it for me.
I watch a few quartes now of the Suns here & there, but I doubt if I will be as a die hard fan. I still follow them - but it is more of a hobby now than an obsession like it used to be.

When I had League Pass, I used to watch Dallas when all they had was Shawn Bradley. Or the Nets when they had Ed O'Bannon and nothing else.
I didn't care, if it was the NBA, I watched it. Now I don't even bother to see what the standings look like.
I used to watch Patino's celtics - I watched every game they had that year. It was awesome to listen to Heinson and Cousy probably all liquored up call those games. I love watching guys like Walter McCarty who don't have all the tools but give everything they have.
I just can't stand today's NBA and the breed of players that are out there now. Were there guys like that before the lockout? Sure. But that ended it for me.
As far as the WNBA goes, if there is entertainment value I will watch. When I did watch it, I saw zero entertainment value. Therefore, I will not watch.
