Mike -- this would help

Y'know, seeing the "GO TO FIRST UNREAD POST" option disappear the first time you use it does make it very frustrating to read this board.

You have to scroll through each thread to find where you left off the previous day. Or work backwards. Or guess.

And this is not quite as time consuming. But not keeping unread threads as UNREAD, once you open the first one, causes extra work . . . and time.

I had mentioned it a few months ago. Can't it be remedied? These features work well on another board to which I post.

Thanks,
Barry C.

Hey Barry,

The board does allow you to go into a thread, come out of it and then go into another and still use the "go to 1st Unread Post" button.

However, there is a time factor involved.

I have my display user setting on ASFN - semi-micro (found on the main page of the board at the bottom). as a result, my 1st unread post button is Orange. If I go into an orange thread and read it & come out, I can go to any other orange thread.

But, if like 5 minutes goes by without any activity - going to another forum, etc - then your buttons go away. I don't know why this happens.

Also, say you get on the board and only read 1 thread. You leave and come back later in the day & check the board again, all of those threads previously marked as "Unread" will not be marked as such. Only the threads that someone has posted in since you left will be marked.

Which of the two scenarios above are you having problems with?

Thanks for your response. I know that if you sign off, when you come back, those will all be marked as READ, unless someone else has posted to it.

I was experiencing that as soon as I opened one thread, then went back to the list, all the rest showed as READ.

I just tried it again and, this time, even the threads I entered remained UNREAD.

So I'll try it for awhile and get back to you. Thanks again.

EDIT: I just tried it again. FIRST UNREAD POST was available on the first thread I tried on the D'backs site. The next thread I went into did not show that option.

So if it doesn't as you enter, it sort of defeats being able to scan quickly as you enter each open post. I'll leave that in your hands.

OK, yeah, the logon time counter was 5 minutes, but we bumped it to 15.

Hopefully that will keep the new posts icons up longer.

I'm already complaining

I honestly don't like the 5 minutes, because I usually go through all the threads I want to in 5 minutes, so then seeing everything still orange sucks...

But no biggie, we'll test it out.

It's now Sunday, guys, and the same thing I posted here is still happening.

Once you open, then close, one thread on either the D'backs or Suns board, they all show as read. I guess I'll just have to make a list when I first access the board each day, then check-off as I open each thread.

And the LAST UNREAD POST feature is still sporadic. That makes reading the ASFN boards each day very time consuming.

I'm a regular on one other D'backs board. It's a pleasure scanning their threads. All of the ones with new entries remain highlighted until I open them, one by one.

And the last unread post feature is there on every thread I open. Every time. Evidently, it can be done.

I won't harp on it, but this is just a follow-up to let you know that the original problems I reported still remain.

Thanks for trying.

wow = that doesn't do that for me.

So it only happens on the Suns & D-Backs boards?

does this occur if you access say, at work, and at home?

it souunds like you use the "Read Latest Post" tab which bunches up all of the threads and has the most recent on top.

I do not use that feature, I just cruise around the individual forums.

well, good luck - that must be annoying.

Hmm, I'm sorry that did not solve your problem.

The 15 minute cookie was getting beyond annoying, so we set it back to 5 since it didn't seem to help.

One thing to try is when you come in to the board is to click on the "New Posts" link in the navigation bar at the top. That will keep a fixed list of unread posts and if you navigate off that you won't have to worry about markers.
