I belong to a social club where wine is served from the box. I've been known to take a 1/2 full box home for later use after the meeting ... but I would NEVER bring a box of wine somewhere.
On a side note, I asked a friend who was on her way over to my house to pick me up a bottle of merlot, no more than $12. (I had already been drinking.) She brought me a bottle of wine with a screw top -- NO CORK!!! I almost flipped out. AND, it was called Paisano wine, not Merlot. WTF???
sorry

Hey, thinking about going to Costa Rica, your thoughts?
Costa Rica is nice... nice beach!! I don't know what are you looking for in your trip... if you like tu surf or relax in a beach... then it's the place. If you are looking for adventure you might as well come to Guatemala. And here I could help you setting up. If you need any help at anything let me know.... I could recommend some places in CR.

There are several high end wines that now use screw tops instead of corks. A bad cork often ruins a bottle or two in a case of wine. When dealing with bottles that are running $100....some producers would rather break tradition than risk having some bad bottles in the lot. Screw tops will most likely start becoming more prominent in wines of all price ranges. Jester by Mitolo is a great wine (not too expensive) that comes with a screw top.
Unfortuanately for you, Paisano would not be one of those better wines with a screw top. It would suck just as bad if they put a cork in it.

Yep, the screw top is getting more common with some high end wines.
Suprisingly, I've been reading some articles that many of the high end winerys are also going to be putting wine in a box as well. So that shoots two of the telltale Redneck signs out of the water...screwtop and boxed wines are no longer gutter, they will soon be elitist.

It is going the other way as well. Charles Shaw (Two Buck Chuck) is basically boxed wine in a bottle with a cork. Not all of Trader Joe's cheaper wines are that bad...some of their 3.99-4.99 are pretty good everyday wines. But Charles Shaw tastes like it should come in a jug or out of a box.
A friend of mine had a wine party, and my friend showed up with a box of wine. The host flipped out and yelled at him in front of everyone, so he pulled the foil out, cut a small hole, stuck a yellow straw in it (forget why he had one in the first place) and drank it like a Capri Sun. He was very sick that night but everyone thought it was amusing.

So I went to this funeral yesterday and somebody brought a box of wine...you know Franzia. All of my relatives got really offended like it was disrespectful or something.
Does anyone here drink wine in the box?
or any of these?
Ryan, where they offended because someone brought wine or offended because of the type of wine?

I actually like two buck chuck (now three buck chuck). It tastes good to me. I prefer better wines and really like the high end Sterlings, but I stock some chuck as well.
