I work in a job where I gotta front my own money for happy hour receptions and whatnot. Usually it's a few hundred here and a few hundred there. Then I get reimbursed.
Well, the reimbursement was taking a long time so the AP dept. rushed it through. Somehow, they made a mistake and mistakenly issued me more money than I was entitled to... $312 to be exact. This money was issued a week after they had paid me everything that was owed and was in a separate check.
While there's always a way to track these things, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be found out since this new check is under a different routing number. And, if eventually found out, I could always claim ignorance and just pay it back.
On the other hand, it is not my money and it technically would be stealing. But I could REALLY use that money.
So, what would you do?
What do you think I did?

I say keep it and see how it plays out. If they ask for it say I didn't even know it was there and give it back. Don't tell anybody in the office though, I know I won't if I'm in your shoes.

Actually by law (at least in Cali) you're allowed to keep it. Kind of sucks for businesses that make a mistake. I think I would give it back because once they find out they won't trust you as much afterwards... Also how does your boss live? Many people would be surprised at how little owners can make after they invest in the business... Sometimes I wonder if it's even worth it...
If you don't believe in that sorta thing then Hell!! Keep it!!!
But, maybe this is Karma for something good she's done. Who is Jersey Girl to tempt the fates like that?
You need to play the hand that's delt to you--keep it; if they ask about it, just say you don't keep very good records and didn't think much about it when you received it.
Go forth and prosper.

I want you to look at my avatar......and ask yourself.......WWJD
Would Joe start crying in that whiney little voice about how even when things break his way, they never break big?
Pesci: "312 dollars? A measley 312 %#@&^! dollars?! That stupid #$%@*&! of an accountant couldn't f*** up the decimal place and give me a couple of G's?! F*** this. They F*** you at the ATM. Never go to the ATM. They F*** you at the ATM!"
Yeah, yeah. We get it, little man. The world is out to get him.
What a clown. :goodfellas:
