Yeah, like that fraud Bob Hope. I mean the nerve of that guy supporting the US troops around the world for all those many years. He should have just stuck to loung acts in Vegas and kept out of things.

Um, Martin Sheen isn't trying to inspire morale. Bob Hope's only goal was morale boosting, not preventing war.

My whole point was, the show is a good one IMO. If you don't agree with what the stars say off the set, who cares? Disagree. If you like the show to begin with, you are ruining entertainment for yourself simply because you boycott the show...all over what an actor says about war...or guns. If you weren't watching the show to begin with (maybe you are so Republican you cannot fathom a show like this, or maybe you just get into comedies) then you don't care what he is saying in the first place.

Basically it comes down to this for me. Whether you agree with Sheen (or whomever) or not, I think it is idiotic to boycott a show over it. All you are doing is lending more credibility to what that person is saying because you are so pissed off that you are going adjust your life (even if it is just an hour) over this. Disagree if you want, your right, personally I ignore all this crap because an actor has as much pull as I do...which is very very little. the shows like Inside Edition and ET or whatever just give them a forum you and I don't really have access to.

Actually, Bob Hope became known for his USO tours and the morale of the troops. That is quite different.

Ah, again something different. He was an actor who BECAME a politician. If Sheen wants to become one, then more power to him. He's a megalomaniac to begin with, and I'm sure he already thinks he IS president, but at least he'll be in the proper arena.

Sorry it is taking me so long to get caught up, I had a lunchtime car emergency and have JUST gotten back.

While I don't really agree with what you said, I appreciate you taking the time to clearly explain it and I respect your point of view.

Actually, the post by waywardfan that I quoted said nothing about morale. His post said that the opinion of entertainers "is not that important".

Obviously, my point was that waywardfan really does paint himself into a corner with such a myopic point of view. Of course Bob Hope did a lot of good thing for many, many years. But, in the end, he is an entertainer and his opinion that he was voicing, in this case, was the support of US Troops around the world.

I see what you're saying, Wiz. But was Bob Hope supporting our troops to the outside world, or strictly there to raise the morale of our guys already out there? Most likely, it was both--so while you are correct, so is Wayward, to a point...

No he isn't.

It is irresponsible for waywardfan to say something like "all entertainers are this or that". Martin Sheen and Bob Hope are both entertainers but I would submit that is where the comparison ends.

Waywardfan NEVER said "all entertainers are this or that."

He said "No, I think people just believe celebrities should just stick to entertainment. Their opinions are just not that important."

BIG difference.

Pardon me if I say - who cares?

I'm more focused on Iraq, North Korea, etc. and their potential threat to the rest of the world than the political heirarchy in Britain.

He is losing those people as a result of his support of President Bush and the plan in Iraq (that you are so singularly focused on). If support errodes further, he may face a "no confidence" vote. You can't seperate these issues.
