A quick and successful war will go a LONG way to helping Blair out. Finding craploads of WOMD will also vindicate him. I hope he can be redeemed. He has turned out to be our generation's Churchill.
As for the idiotic celebrities. Yes, they have every right to say stupid things. However, they want to be able to say them and not have any repercussions. They want freedom of speech to spew crap, but they don't want us to have freedom of speech to NOT watch their shows, buy their music and pay for their movies.
I have a list of people who I will no longer support. It is a small step, but I think it is meaningful enough if/when others do the same. It has already shown to be a success in some terms. The Dipsy Chicks, Martin Sheen have felt it. I say, keep it up.

When you say it like that you make it sound as though you were following them before they said what they said.
Fred Thompson supports the president but he still sucks as the DA on Law and Order. The Dixie Chicks music still sounds the same as it did before they spoke to some reporters in London and I am pretty sure their political views didn't change just recently.
That's just as rediculous as me taking advice from Charles Barkley on how to raise my children.

Not at all. However, I would tolerate some to certain levels but that will be the case no longer.

Actually it was to the crowd during one of their concerts (on foreign soil, no less). And you're right, their political views probably didn't change recently. They also didn't make it an issue and/or bring it to everyone's attention. Like I said, they have the right to say what they want to say, and I do too. They want to make a case about it, I can too.

To me, The Dixie Chiks sucked elephant nads anyhow, so no big loss, but IM sorry, I cant stop watching The West Wing becasue Martin Sheen doesnt agree with going to war. Who cares what his personal beliefs re? He's a fine actor on a fine program.
I don't see how average everyday people can put so much concern into what an actor thinks about politics.

Most people I have talked to feel that Sheen goes to great links to get HIS political message woven into the West Wing, so much that many people call it the Left Wing. They turned a White House shooting incident into an episode against guns, etc. (Why would you stop watching? You're probably on the same page as Martin...)
The best medicine for Martin is his brother Joe Estevez. The NRA hired him to narrate a video of theirs. Guess who he sounds EXACTLY like? That's right, his bro Martin. Classic. I think Sheen flipped and filed suit, claiming they were trying to use his "likeness." DUH, some brothers sound alike, it's not like Joe was impersonating Martin. (That's as ridiculous as the former lead singer of CCR getting sued for putting out solo material sounding too much like CCR...HELLO, it's the same guy.)

Most people you talk to? Who are those? And what insight do they have thats legit? Either ay, if he does, and can, more power to him. Again, when he does that he needs to be open to whatever response any individual feels necessary, but I find it ludicrous that anyone would care. Its a fictional drama about what it COULD be like in the white house. Who cares whos personal agenda is being forwarded. Watch it, enjoy it, and forget about it. That wat prime time TV is supposed to be. You think Im so dimwittied that I use network (or any) television to shape my personal beliefs and political and social views?
You take things WAY to personally, Brian. Martin Sheen is an actor on a TV show. Nothing more, nothing less. His opinions in NO WAY affect public policy. So who really cares what they are?
And the "why would you stop watching..." comment. Cheap shot. Who cares if I align myself politically with Martin SHeen? (I don't, by the way). I AM capable of higher and independent thought and analysis when I'm presented information, and am not duped by hidden political agenda. Im just as willing to look at anti-gun statistics from Michael Moore as I am to look at the pro-gun numbers from the NRA, so dont go using bullshit little quips like that to try and discount my opinion by aligning me with your perceived evil liberalism of Martin Sheen. Its a decidedly tired debate technique and carries little or no water whatsoever.
Again, the very fact you "boycott" their shows means you actually pay attention to what they are saying and care about what they are saying...if you didn't pay attention and you didn't care, then you wouldn't boycott the show. Watch the shows and don't care about their personal beliefs. Ignore all the fawning, worshipping TV shows that think their beliefs are so important they devote airtime to them.
West Wing is a good show whether you are Rep. or Dem. Doesn't matter. Just because Sheen is against things doesn't mean you should boycott his show. All it means is you don't agree with him.

At least the windbag also known as Rosie O'Donnell is off the tv for now. She completely burned out on her show and began using it as a political vehicle.
You could see the writing on the wall when she attacked Tom Selleck on the air about his pro-gun views when he came on the show to discuss a movie. Then she wanted the performers from the play "Annie Get Your Gun" to do their number without mentioning any "gun" - DOH!
She and Martin Sheen and many other celebrities are hypocrites too. They're anti-gun, except when it come to their personal security guards/bodyguards.

Schutd, while you have the capacity to discern what is fictional and what is not, it is those that don't that worry me. There was actually a poll conducted last year asking who the president of the U.S. was. Bartlett actually got something like 30%. That's scary. Hell, at Dem fundraisers they play Hail to the Chief when he is introduced!
West Wing is offensive, in my opinion, if you're conservative. That is it's aim, it's bent. Sorkin has as much as said so. It is their attempt to not only put a shiny gloss on liberal policy but to attack conservatives and their policies. It may be a good show, but I get bombarded enough with conservative hate in my everyday life that I don't need to watch a show about it. If I want good Sorkin material I'll watch Sports Night.
Hey, I repeat. It is Sheen and Sorkin's (and whatever producers involved and NBC) right to air leftist propaganda. People have the right to choose to watch it. However, it is also my right to not only NOT watch but to exercise my right to suggest to others to not watch as well. That is what they don't want. They want to be able to spew what they spew but as soon as people have an opinion against them, they cry foul. Blacklist!!

Please clarify your statement. Are you suggesting to Brian that he should simply disagree with Sheen, but that he shouldn't boycot the show?

So what if the Dixie Chicks or anyone else in entertainment is voicing their opinions. They are no different than you or I posting our opinions about the whole thing right here on this board or anywhere else for that matter. If a news station came up to you on the street and asked you for your opinion of this situation, you'd give it.
What is hypocritical is to think that because these people are celebrities, they have to round out their opinions to be politically correct. That is a crock of BS, and not what this country is all about.

Or when they make lots of money playing gun-toting roles.

Bob, I dont think anyone is suggsting they don't have a right to voice their opinions. I think we're suggesting that two things:
1. They are using their celebrity status to spew rediculous comments, and
2. As they have the right to say what they say, people have the right to do the same thing by NOT supporting them. People have the right to NOT pay to watch their movies or listen to their cd's. They have the right to contact sponsors and tell them their products and services won't be bought as long as they advertise on a particular show.

No, I think people just believe celebrities should just stick to entertainment. Their opinions are just not that important.

The Dixie Chicks going to London and telling a crowded stadium that they are ashamed of the President being from their state of Texas is a LITTLE different than one of us posting something political on this board.
When an American performer or group goes abroad to perform, whether they like it or not, they represent AMERICA.
The timing and location of their declaration is suspicious too. Why not say that when they're here in the States? Afraid of the crowd reaction likely.
The original post about celebrities was the fact that they say what they say and then WHINE about any repurcussions that come from it.
They can say whatever they want, but they should be prepared for a backlash. Especially saying anything that could be viewed as anti-American in a time of possible war.

I think the Dixie Chicks handled the backlash just fine. Natalie Maines apologized to the President for her comments. Granted, she should not have said that in the first place, but I think we all say things we regret every now and then. Hell, this board is a perfect example of that.
