What happened with Squaw Peak today?

I tried to get down to the state capitol to speak infront of the committee that was meeting on the decision concerning Squaw Peak but I couldn't get out of the office. I even wrote a speach!

AZcentral hasn't said anything about it

I was listening on the radio. I guess it got pretty ugly. The board suspended the bylaws and passed it without community representation or something.

But there is another step it has to go thru to become final.

Ridiculous!

Can't believe Napolimano got it pushed through.

What a joke.

Let's just slap the faces of everyone else who lost a soldier in Iraq that was from Arizona.

Lori Piestewa shall be raised above all others for political correctness' sake.

It was a politically charged day in Arizona.

http://www.azcentral.com/news/articl...stewa-ON2.html

I hate politics and don't think I'd fall under any one political party... but I think I'm going to register to vote and make sure that idiot doesn't get re-elected. I hope this whole thing blows up in their faces.

I'm still not convinced that a mountain named "squaw" is such a bad thing.

That is just weird.

I am going to still call it Squaw Peak. I used to go there for field trips in elementary school.

All I know is I have been using the word "squaw" a lot lately

edit: I wanted to clarify...I haven't used this as a racial slur against any indians

You know something else that I find rather ironic. These Native Americans who we are offending so badly with Squaw Peak do not pay taxes, yet it is the Arizona tax payer who is "biting the pillow" paying for this special sessions with all these different departments and ultimately will pay for the road sign changes and all that jazz. bastards

By the way, I was born in America and have lived no where else in my life...would that make me a Native American?

So were there many speaking out against it? I don't know why they didn't put it to a PUBLIC vote. Why should a board of 5 people be able to decide what a PUBLIC place should be called??

Does anyone know the name of the 1st woman to die in a war? 1st African American woman? 1st Mexican, Spanish, Central American woman? I'm just not getting this.

WoW I just went to azcentral.com and looked at the message board for the name change. There are alot of post against this... The best one had a suggestion to go to the AZ GOV Feedback and send them a message. I will right my feedback to them to day as well . Here is the link.

Yep, you are officially a Native of America...therefore...a Native American.

My foster brother is an Indian of the Pima Indian tribe. He does not like the term "Native American" because it is just another white man's word used to describe them. He figures they've been called Indians longer than anything, so Indian it is. This is prevalent in most tribes...hence the issue of Indian Gaming rather than Native American Gaming and the Bureau of Indian Affairs rather than Bureau of Native American Affairs. Political Correctness sucks...especially when the group you are trying to protect doesn't even want to be called the new title dreamed up for them.

Squaw Peak Forever.

My dad is a retired court reporter. He had decided since he is a native to America, he was a Native American. So when he filled out forms he checkmarked that box. The judge he worked for got a certificate commending him on having a Native American on his staff.
