Statistics

Let me tell you about statistics.

Keep in mind this number: 1 in 3.51 million.

15% of people will require fertility treatment.

Using IVF, you have about a 63% chance of success on the 1st cycle.

My wife and I have been through 4. Statistically, that means that we should have had a 91% chance of a success.

The last cycle, we finally had two viable. Implanted both. One didn't compact (died).

The living one split - identical twins. 1:140 chance.

It split again - identical triplets. 1:140 chance again (or, about a 1:19,600 chance from a single egg). IVF doctors with a steady practice typically see a case every 10 years.

The risk of miscarriage for ID twins while undergoing IVF is 80%. They don't have enough statistics to even guess what that number is for ID triplets.

Today was the 7th week 6th day since fertilization, and we found out that we have lost all three. No FHR. They just stopped growing. Too little space, said the good doctor.

My wife was ordered off of the medications (and for those of you who have gone through IVF, that means the shots, the pills, and the suppositories), and to wait for a miscarriage. If, in 7 days, it hasn't happen, they'll do a confirming ultrasound, and a D&C procedure.

A one in 3.51 million chance, if we had made it. But we didn't

We haven't decided if we want to undergo Round 5 yet. We don't want to make any decisions right now, just deal with it, get our wits about us, and move on.

Thanks for letting me rant. I know of a few on the board who are or have undergone IVF - for those of you still doing it, keep the faith and good luck.

I'm going to go tend to my wife now.

lv - my best friend from high school came down with testicular cancer and walks around with one nut. He and his wife had serious issues getting pregnant and went the invitro route. After 7 attempts, they finally scored. Their doctor is a very famous, well-know doc in that field. He's based in Stamford, CT and if you are ever inclined, I can get you his name. Just let me know.

Good Luck dude...

Having the opportunity to go to bed at a decent hour and then not being able to fall asleep I think I'm on my 5th Office episode in a row...

Having an alarm go off at work that I am pretty sure is just a test, that says that I need to evacuate...do NOT use the elevator. I'm on the 10th floor.

Yuck. I was on 15 downtown and hated doing those. I'd always get dizzy by the time I got to the bottom.

Paying at least a couple grand to fly to Vegas for a friend's wedding, and my wife and I not having a place to sit at the reception.

Ugh.
