Chinese seems even harder. Do you speak Mandarin Chinese as well?
I think I am doing a very good job in the month or so I have been dedicated to learning Japanese again.

DCR, through what method are you trying to learn Japenese? Rosetta Stone, classes?

Second level at Thunderbird starts on Tuesday and I can't wait. I'm progressing, but I still have a long way to go! Going to try it out in Russia in April.
How's your Russian?

Lets see. I have a Rosetta Stone software that I don't like so far to be honest. Which is surprising, I thought it would really work for me.
I am using audio books that I listen to. I'm also using the Internets as a great tool. Watching videos, downloading practice sheets, etc. So far I have mastered the Hiragana alphabet, learning the Katakana one. (What kind of language has 2 freaking alphabets?) Haven't really begun Kanji yet.
I also have My Japanese Coach for the Nintendo DS. It is actually a pretty cool and fun way to try and learn a language. It uses the microphone and records you speaking, giving you a chance to mimic the voice in the game.
I think I might take a class at Mesa Community College next year.

Thanks for the tip on the video game. That sounds like a lot of fun.
I took the online MCC Japanese class a few years ago just to see what it was like. If you sign up, let me know and if they are using the same books, I will give you mine.

Awesome.
There are some pretty big flaws in the game (like getting the stroke order on some of the sounds wrong) but overall it is fun. I play it for 5-10 minutes before bed.

It is a struggle for sure. It really is very difficult to learn a foreign language, especially one so different to English.
