My wife made it perfectly clear that both myself and my 11 year old son were not to make any discouraging comments to him. My 5 year old even asked me the question if it was the "Bad" Wildcats and I just had to ignore him.

When my son was 6 I signed him up for fall baseball. We had the first practice, a sort of get to know you session.
The second practice comes along, going over the fundamentals and what-not. At the end of practice, the coach tells the kids to form a line with their parents so he can pass out the hats and uniforms. We see right away that it's the Yankees.
Kyle: "Dad, do I have to play on this team?"
Me: "Well, it's paid for already but it's up to you. I know what I would do."
(We get to the front of the line and the coach holds up a jersey and hat for Kyle)
Kyle: "I'm not wearing that."
Coach: "I'm sorry, what wrong?"
Kyle: "I said I'm not wearing that, I might wipe my butt with it but I'm not wearing it."
He walked away and looked at me like "Well, are you coming?"
I've never been more proud..
