Six flags over Glendale?
Neighbor told me he heard they are planning a Six flags amusement park by the Cardinals Stadium and a Six Flags waterpark over here at Buckeye.
Said he saw it from various sources.
Truth, rumor, bull?????????

I've heard the same thing . . .
Is a six flags supposed to improve the neighborhood? I think the opposite.
It's one thing when a venue is used 10-15 times per year vs. every day of the year.

That rumor has been linked to every town in Pheonix metro area. Theme park wise it would be to expensive. It would have to be domed in, not to sure how many people want to go ride a roller coaster in 122 degree weather. Water park the same has been talked about in every town, but thats all its ever been.

^ why would it have to be domed? Most theme parks are closed all winter long. A theme park in Phoenix wouldn't have that problem. They'd have a virtual monopoly on winter time coaster riding. Perhaps the park would be closed during the summer, but thats not much different than what other parks go through.
I even think the park could stay open during the summer. Make sure to include a lot of water rides and an adjoining full scale water park. Lots of shade, large trees and misters. Design the coasters in a smart way, no exposed metal. Keep the cars in the shade most of the time, they wouldn't be exposed to direct sunlight except when on the tracks.
Im a big time coaster enthusiast and think its a shame that the nations 5th biggest city doesn't have a full scale amusement park.

Taking the summer off for an amusement park for me just doesn't sound smart. While I would love it, kids go to amusement parks. Thats there target audience. Kids also go to school in every part of the year but summer. Meaning when everyone could go there they'll be in school. Which would IMO be greater less lines, but less money for Six flags.
Anyway I did a search on Six Flags AZ and this came up. A Roller Coaster Forum where they claim its broken ground and being build as we speak right now in Scottsdale, Tonopah, Anthem, Tolleson, Buckeye, Wikieup, and Maricopa.

there is only about 20-40 days in July-Aug where the heat is unbearable even @ night. During this time of year maybe just the water part of the park would be open and maybe 6 to 8 hrs at night the rides too? But the rest of the year is a go.

That rumor surfaces in every part of the Phx metro area. I heard for awhile that it would be built somewhere towards Maricopa, my neck of the woods. Then I heard that Schnepf Farms sold land to allow developers to build a Disney water park. I also heard that they were going to build it west of Flagstaff in some town I have never heard of. I've heard so much over so many areas that I just have to wait and see at this point. I believe there is a strong enough demand to support major theme parks, but who know where it will go.

This is a good idea. It will attract more people to AZ and that's a good thing. More fun stuff=less gay jokes about AZ. I probably wouldn't go there too much but it would be cool to have I guess.

I can't recall any "gay" jokes about Arizona. Are you thinking of San Fran?

i haven't heard the rumour for glendale and I think it is becoming too residential right now - buckeye could work, but I haven't heard that rumour either
the main ones i've heard are wikieup and some other place that I can't think off
i'd love to have one out here though - maybe go an hour or so outside the city where the climate isn't quite as harsh - slightly higher ground - people will travel

Maybe if heat is a real concern, the best place to build something like this would be north of Phoenix. It seems like most 6 flags are near big cities, but not actually in them. Or at leas the two I've been to anyway- Valencia (Magic Mountain) is near LA. 6 Flags St Louis isn't in St Louis, its quite a bit outside of St Louis.
