I do not know the numbers (percentage rates)... but I do know that when I go in to see the puchase agent at the regional office there are a lot of sales reps from local companies in the waiting room... I know that those individuals are employed here in the U.S. and I also have spoken with them and most of them make a pretty good wage...
When my corporate office gave me our Western Region copy of the contract I was mortified. We were going to be selling to them at about half the profit of any other retailer, they are very demanding and they tell you what they will pay, there was no negotiation and if you had a problem with it, they just would not sell your product. I was very hesitant, but after sales figures came in, they proved that less profit at a ten fold quantity would be much more profitable for both of our companies...
This is not to say that I don't think they pay employees poorly, but they also pay vendors a portion of what the vendors would charge another retailer...
