As I sit here in amazement that I'm not locked up for assault or being sued by a jerk in this morning's traffic, I wonder if anyone on the board knows of a way to file a complaint regarding a driver without giving that said driver any of your personal info.
Quick recap: My wife's grandma just had hip surgery so we've been helping her out quite a bit which meant today my wife was driving her gma's car and I was following her on her way to her job in our truck. I watched in shock as a guy in a white car put his signal on and proceeded to swerve from the far right lane into the middle lane and head directly into the far left lane...occupied by my wife. He nearly drove her into the center turning lane/median area. If she had not decided to hit her brakes and let him over he would have hit the front passenger side of the car. I couldn't believe it. I immediately pulled into the middle lane and was going to pull up next to her and comment on what a jerk the guy was (to her). As I'm pulling up next to her (traffic is like molasses) the guy actually puts his car into park and gets out. He walks back to her car and starts cussing at her making motions for her to roll down her window. He says "Thanks a lot you f***ing b**ch for letting me over! I had my f***ing signal on you f***ing b**ch!" When I was first pulling up next to her car, the only thing I could think of as I saw him get out was he thought the cars had bumped or something...it took a second to register that this guy who just tried to run my wife off the road is now cussing at her for something which was not her fault. I told him to shut up and that it was my wife he was cussing at. He said "She should have let me over, I had my signal on!" I said that I had seen the whole thing and that he just tried to swerve all the way over. Faced with the facts he then said "Pull over up ahead and I'll kick your f***ing a**!" He got into his car and pulled away (showing off his license plate rather nicely ). I got the number and laughed as he pulled up by a gas station thinking I was going to follow him and duke it out. Then we headed on to my wife's work.
I'd like to file a complaint about this guy, because he was reckless, then he got out and confronted my wife at her driver's window, then he threatened me. All before 8 am. I'd hate to see this guy by midday.
I am at the same time upset and glad that I handled myself in a professional way. It would have been so easy to get out and trounce this guy (he had a male passenger as well - guy was in shock...didn't say a word). But then I would have been up for assault charges or I would have left myself open to a lawsuit or some other type of retribution from this punk, even if he threw the first punch. And...you never know who has a gun/knife these days.
So overall I know I made the rational choice by staying fairly calm, but it would be nice to file a complaint about the situation without the guy having an opportunity to get my name and try something down the road...

That guy sounds like a freaking nutcase - I think you handled yourself very well - way to go. I would still call in his license plate and maybe they keep track of things like that ( i dont know ). Either way, I'm glad that you and your wife are safe. Road rage is a scary thing.

You should have called the police on your cell phone as soon as it happened. You can still file a report, so if it ever happens with to someone else it will be on file that this isn't the first incident with that vehicle. You might want to call the DMV and ask them what to do. I believe you could file assualt charges, battery is the actual fighting, assualt is the threat or intention.

That is a disturbing way to start your day BIM. I would call it in. You have the witnesses (You, Wife, GMa right?). I would not let it slide they guy at least deserves some harassment. You did the right thing though by not jumping out and kicking his a**. I had a freind that did that and ended up having to pay. He won the fight but lost in the long run.
