Rick Monday Saves Old Glory 1976

Here's a link to a video of a news story about Rick Monday saving the flag from being burned at Dodger Stadium in 1976:

Monday Saves Flag

As a tribute to this event, an American medivac unit in Iraq flew a flag and sent it to Monday's wife so she could give it to him. Apparently Mrs. Monday had heard of the Patriot Guard Riders, which is the group of motorcyclists that began attending soldiers funerals (with families permission) to shield the families from protesters from a whacked out Kansas church. I have participated in a memorial service with PGR and it is a very moving experience that is very much appreciated by the fallen soldier's family. Mrs. Monday has requested that the flag be transported by Patriot Guard Riders from Florida to Dodger Stadium to be presented to Rick Monday on July 4. It will be going through Arizona on June 29; it will be hot as hell but if i can get off work i would love to ride along with the group for a while. Heres a link to the PGR notice:

I was only 4 then, and I don't believe I have ever heard about this (I know, a smackload of y'all weren't even born yet--at least I wasn't diapering my grandkids like 40-year! )

Anyway, thanks for sharing--it was a very moving clip to watch!

Well, I took a few days off and rode with the flag on the "Patriot Express" from Seligman to Laughlin. It was a very moving experience, it's great to see there is still a lot of patiotism in the USA.

Barbara Lee Monday, Rick Monday's wife, has accompanied the flag the entire trip; she is going to write a book about the experience. Her vest had lots of pins from her trip that were given to her along the way. I gave her a "40" Cardinal pin and told her I got it from the Cardinal game where Pat Tillman was memorialized. She said she knew who Pat was, and she seemed very moved. She pinned it on her vest immediately. I met Rick Monday today, he also seemed to be a very nice, sincere person.

The flag left Laughlin today and should be in 29 Palms. Heres a link to a long thread if you want to read about the trip:

BTW, I believe the July 4 Dodger game where the flag will be presented to Rick is vs. the Diamondbacks.

Way to go Red Dawn.

We live in the greatest country in the world, but some of us have forgotten. Nice to be reminded.
