If the police find a body that is badly decomposed or something and they have to go to dental records....how do they know who your dentist is? Are your dental records sent to some major database somewhere?

How does this process work?

I just asked my wife, who is a dental hygenist(sp). She said they usually call doctor's offices and ask about missing persons. She also said that they look for checkbook receipts and/or credit card history to see if they have paid for dental work recently. Good question!!!
