So, I am guessing that some of you guys with kids know about the Flat Stanley project. Basically elementary school kids make this paper doll and send it to people they know in different towns and states throughout the year. My second cousin, Adam, who is in third grade, has just been assigned this project.
Enter Super Cousin (aka Jersey Girl). Since I will be driving from New Jersey to Arizona in exactly 17 days (holy crap!), I have been charged with introducing Flat Stanley to the midwest and southwest ... and I am really freaking psyched!
I figure it will give me something fun to do on the long ride and it will help my cousin get an A on his project. Plus, I now have a copilot (besides my cat) for the journey. I just hope I don't turn into Tom Hanks in Castaway an form an emotional attactment to an inate object.

In the book, Flat Stanley, by Jeff Brown, Stanley is squashed flat by a falling bulletin board. One of the many advantages is that Flat Stanley can now visit his friends by travelling in an envelope. This premise provides a reason for us to keep in touch with each other. The Flat Stanley Project is a group of teachers who want to provide students with another reason to write. Students' written work goes to other places by conventional mail and e-mail. Check out the Flat Stanley List of Participants to see where you can send a Flat Stanley or who might be sending a Flat Stanley to you.
Students make paper Flat Stanleys and begin a journal with him for a few days. Then Flat Stanley and the journal are sent to another school where students there treat Flat Stanley as a guest and complete the journal. Flat Stanley and the journal are then returned to the original sender. Students can plot his travels on maps and share the contents of the journal. Often, a Flat Stanley returns with a pin or postcard from his visit. Some teachers prefer to use e-mail only, and this is noted in the List of Participants.

Nor had I until today. Something tells me though, Ryan, that you will become quite familiar with a whole new host of characters in the coming years. (I, however, will continue my relationships with Jack, Jamey and Johnny.)

Can you imagine if Flat Stanley spent his time with Assface? The students would never be the same
My new freinds took me to a Cardinal game! The tailgate was a blast!
Ol' Stanley has never been so slobbering drunk in his life. But I got to tell you kids I like it! As a matter of fact as soon as I get released from detox in downtown Phoenix, I'm looking for a good bar and tying on a drunk that will be legendary. That's what I learned from my friends, Cards lose, we get drunk for the week. So I'm pretty much planning on not sobering up until sometime after training camp next year.
Please send money, The Stanster (my new Cardinal message board name) can't stand the cheap stuff.
