Not sure how to vote. I have never watched an MMA event, but likely would have watched on Saturday night because it was free and television history. I think it is as real as boxing and not scripted like WWE.
I wonder where MMA ranks in revenue. Is it #4 behing NASCAR and before NHL?

Dude, Spike has MMA all the time for free. I didn't watch on Saturday, but from what I have read, I'm glad I didn't.
I ended up voting "something to amuse the posers" simply based on all the douchebags with "Tap Out" stickers on their trucks. They've seemed to replace the Calvin peeing stickers, which may or may not be a sign of progress.
I was at a party Saturday night and was amazed at the reactions. It was similar to a Junior High School dance. Men in one room , ladies in another. I was with the ladies most of the time. The view was much better and I had their undivided attention.
To a man, they all thought it was the real deal and their was no changing their minds. Mind you, these are all middle aged men, most of whom had never been in a fight in their lives let alone the ring. This phenomenon reminded me of the original Rollerball.

EliteXC has just thrown the sport back about 10 years. It was a horrible representation of the sport. The fights were the "fishiest" fights I have EVER seen in MMA. Plus the whole thing looked like a circus. Be happy you didn't watch cause it was horrible. That was the first and last EliteXC fight card I have ever watched.
In the defense of MMA. It is not fake. If you think it is, then you are wrong. You can go to any ol' MMA show at any ol' gym and see that it is not. These are atheletes, and competitors. As I said EliteXC just did a horrific job of respresenting the sport.
Next, if UFC has hosted the Saturday night fights, and had used there previous pay-per-view as the card, it would have jumped the sport of MMA ahead a couple of years. Cause that fight card was awesome.
When you get to see the cream of the crop like BJ Penn vs Shaun Sherk, or Keith Jardine vs. Vanderlay Silva you will see why the sport is so popular.
I can understand why some may not like the sport and that is fine. But I think the poll options are a little condiscending. If you don't like the sport that is fine, but bashing its fans is uncalled for. I could go on, and on and on about what I think about baseball, golf, and a whole slew of other "sports" and their fans but I'd rather leave it with the comment that I do not enjoy watching or playing those kinds of sports.
And by the way, my wife and her friends love the sport.

If it was real, they would be hauling carcasses out of the ring in body bags.
And they haven't ?
I have seen guys go out on stretchers.
I have seen guys walk out with broken arms. Heck there is even a video of Tim Sylvia breaking his arm.
I have seen guys loose teeth, break jaws, and have seen careers ended.
You are entitled to your opinion though. If you think it is fake then more power to you.
I have seen the proof up close and personal so I am convinced.

I fight Krav Maga and we sure as Hell can't use the full arsenal. So, in that sense, it is fake.
Okay, I get you.
Yeah, there is no eye gouging, blows to the back of head, kicks to a down opponent, etc., etc.
So yes there are parameters and rules so that they don't "go out in body bags". It is not full on 100% no rules, cage fighting.
Yes, no full on Krav Maga going on. So it is fake for the sake of not having each fight be there last.
But it ain't WWE type fake. It is more like boxing, wrestling, or martial arts all rolled into one.

I saw something over the weekend on T.V about teaching kids MMA.
Under proper supervision I think it is a great idea.

nothing wrong with teaching kids MMA - it's really just a blend of other "acceptable" disciplines - unless there is now outrage for kids taking up wrestling or karate
these aren't street fights - they aren't last man standing competitions - there are rules to protect the safety of the fighters
with that said, there is a lot of leeway - there is definitely a lot of contact and it's interesting to see the technique and styles implemented and how they play against each other
i don't like all the posers it draws out - people who watch it and then think they can do it like it's nothing or people who think that because they train at some gym they can walk into any fighting discipline and beat someone who is crafted in that discipline at that style
