I have to report to the U.S. District Court tomorrow for jury duty.
I know i shoud bring a book. Is it acceptable to bring my laptop, do some work, watch movies, while waiting?
I'm not really thrilled with the prospect of hanging out all day waiting.
Any tips from anyone?

Actually, NO. Not a great idea. First off, you would be lucky if they let you bring it in the building, but if they did, you can bet they wont let you take it in the court, and your lucky if it is still waiting for you when you get back out there. Be safe, leave it home dude!

This should make for a very short day in Jury Duty.
I didn't have to go quite that far, although It did cross my mind.
I was dismissed fairly early due to the fact I didn't feel I could be impartial given the nature of the case.
All in all, not to painful of a day.
I got called to jury duty at Superior Court downtown last August. Thought I would be in and out in a day (like every other time I was summoned). So I dutifully reported with a book (no computer!!) and was selected for a two+ week second degree murder trial.
The judge (same judge with Bishop O'Brian's case) was having no excuses from anyone.
This women - had to be almost 70 - said that she was on medication and could miss taking her pills on a tight schedule. The judge said he understood and told her that, if she were selected - he would take a note from her doctor and he would plan breaks around her schedule (she was not selected after all, but he did not excuse her). News producer from Fox 10 gave some story about how she works with the police all of the time...no excuse. Many stories about how jury duty will affect jobs....no dice.
Once I got over the fact that I was missing so much work, it was actually a very good experience.
I had jury duty 2 or 3 weeks ago in Superior Court. I had my gameboy with me and played it while waiting. They allowed computers there and even had a room with phone jacks and desks specifically for people with laptops. Security will just ask you to turn it on to make sure it's not a bomb or anything.
