Maybe I'm just a wimp, but when I was 12 a baby bark scorpion stung me while I was half asleep. I thought a thick, foot-long needle went into my arm! After that I don't remember pain, but the memory of the initial sting has stayed with me all these years.

My sister's dog was stung in the face... he didn't like it too much and kept rubbing it, but he was fine. I heard it depends on where dogs are hit as to whether or not it's dangerous for them.

I live in the Foothills as well. I used to have a great exterminator. He switched me from the regular stuff to Noxout (microencapusated diazanon) and that did the trick. Used to get 6-10/yr then it wen't down to 0-1/year.

Unfortunately they got bought out by Terminex and they don't offer that chemical. They started coming back and finally I switched to another company. They don't use Noxout but it is similar in effect, and I think I've only seen one since I switched.
